Are NBA Fans Living in the Past?

Grant TaylorSep 7, 2011

NBA legends.

Their impact on the game has changed the way we look at and play the game of basketball. Players such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Wilt Chamberlain defined their eras with dominant play that set them apart from their peers.

But now, players such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Tim Duncan have arrived in the NBA, and in my opinion, have not been given the legacies they deserve.

For example, Kobe has often been thought of as "the closest we've seen to Jordan." But because of die-hard fans' unwillingness to conform to the most recent wave of NBA players, it seems nearly impossible for Kobe, no matter what he accomplishes, to ever be seen as more than a mere copy of the great Michael Jordan.

So, one has to wonder, is it time we give these players the credit they deserve? Should we finally admit their titles as among the greatest of all-time, if not the greatest of all-time?

Some fans may never do so.

I previously wrote two articles on the subject, one pertaining to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and the other to Rajon Rondo. Both brought comments of harsh disagreement and a long list of lengthy opinions on their "G-O-A-T."

I disagree completely with almost every person that commented.

Kobe Bryant has officially reached the level of Michael Jordan, LeBron James is the most skilled player the league has ever seen and a lot of other NBA players should soon join the ranks of the most-adored NBA athletes the league has ever seen.

So whether you agree or disagree, I've had my say.

NBA fans are in fact living in a basketball era that has past, and are having nagging troubles coming into the new wave of talent.
