5 Teams Guaranteed to Come Calling During Season for Free Agent WR Terrell Owens

John RozumJun 7, 2018

To begin, we know at some point during the season Terrell Owens will be on an NFL team.

He's too good of a WR, despite his age, to not get another chance to showcase his abilities.

In addition, Owens hasn't brought as much baggage to the table along with him, at least not like he used to.

The following teams all have an outside shot at making the postseason this season (worst case-scenario).

So when they come calling, you read it here first.

Arizona Cardinals

1 of 5

Along with the St. Louis Rams, the Arizona Cardinals should be battling for the NFC West title.

Kevin Kolb looked like the real deal in the preseason when paired with Larry Fitzgerald and TE Todd Heap.

They are his two best targets, but if coach Ken Whisenhunt wants his offseason to go over the top, adding Terrell Owens will certainly do so.

Fitzgerald is arguably the best WR in the game, and he can run any route, anywhere on the field.

Todd Heap is a clutch catching TE, and has been very reliable his entire career.

With the threat of T.O. going deep, it's only going to deter attention away from them, or, leave Owens open on the post or streak.

There's no way defenses will be able to completely account for all three targets, as long as Kolb has minimal protection.

Cleveland Browns

2 of 5

Believe it or not , but the Cleveland Browns are an improved football team, and expect to be much better this season—even without Terrell Owens.

However, since the Browns are in somewhat of a "nothing to lose, but everything to gain" position, having Owens out wide can only help.

For one, Cleveland does have a solid rushing attack, and Colt McCoy is an up and coming NFL QB.

Rookie WR Greg Little and TE Benjamim Watson seem to be the best receiving targets, and they'll only become that much more productive with T.O.

Drawing the defense's attention in multiple places in coverage is what you need to do in order to have success in the passing game, because having just one or two targets won't last all season.

Watson will still be McCoy's favorite outlet, but T.O. will take away a lot of pressure from Greg Little, thus allowing the rookie to get acclimated to the speed of pro football.

All in all, it's a win-win situation for Cleveland.

Tennessee Titans

3 of 5

They finally have Chris Johnson back in uniform, and could very well position themselves as AFC South champs with the addition of Terrell Owens.

Sure they have Nate Washington and Kenny Britt at WR, but neither can be compared to Owens.

In addition, Tennessee now has a solid pocket passer at QB in Matt Hasselbeck from Seattle.

Who, by the way, is going to be partially responsible for the development of rookie QB Jake Locker.

So the future is set in Nashville, and this season Hasselbeck and Owens could show the youngsters how it's done.

And with Chris Johnson in the backfield, the Titans would then have a complete offensive unit.

Indianapolis Colts

4 of 5

This season it's reasonable to suspect that the Indianapolis Colts will start off slow, even if Peyton Manning is under center in Week 1.

That said, they have too many other injury-prone WRs such as Anthony Gonzalez, and Austin Collie.

Now yes, Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon are still there, but both have had their fair share of injuries as well.

Plus once Manning does return, how cool would it be to see the Peyton Manning to Terrell Owens combo?

Move Garcon to the slot, and Wayne opposite of T.O. and then it won't matter who's at TE (Dallas Clark or Jacob Tamme). He'll force defenses to not blitz Manning nearly as much because they'll need at least six or seven guys in coverage (minimum).

And if they do blitz, that leaves any RB or TE open as a check-down, thus the field is stretched even more with T.O. going deep.

St. Louis Rams

5 of 5

Even with the aforementioned Arizona Cardinals, the St. Louis Rams, right now, are looking like the NFC West favorites.

QB Sam Bradford has yet to really find his game as an NFL QB, but that's the scary part, because he's going to get that much better.

However, St. Louie has waived WRs Donnie Avery and Mardy Gilyard, as well as having placed veteran Mark Clayton on the PUP list.

Now, they still have Brandon Gibson, Danny Amendola, and acquired Mike Sims-Walker (previously with Jacksonville) right after the lockout.

But, the addition of Owens will not only help these young WRs learn and develop, but it'll give them more opportunities to make plays.

The theme is obviously adding T.O. to derive attention from the other offensive weapons, but even so, if that doesn't happen then it's only going to leave him open.

The Rams could be a major NFC sleeping giant if "I want me some me" signs his name down.
