MLB Prospects: The All-September Call-Up Team
As we come down the stretch, it's going to be really interesting to see which teams made the correct call-ups.
Those in the playoff hunt obviously have less room for error, but building for 2012 right now is also very crucial.
So let's get to it.
Check out the All-Call-Up Team for the month of September.
Note: Not all the following players have officially been called up, and the DH was not recognized as it is not universally used throughout the minors.
Pitcher: Stephen Strasburg, Washington Nationals
1 of 92011 Statistics
Record: 0-1
ERA: 5.02
Strikeouts: 25
Innings: 14.1
The former No. 1 overall draft pick gives a sigh of relief to Nationals fans, and much hope for 2012.
Next season has a lot of potential in D.C.
Catcher: Ryan Lavarnway, Boston Red Sox
2 of 92011 Statistics
Batting average: .289
Home runs: 31
RBI: 89
Hits: 124
With Jason Varitek aging, the Bo-Sox could use some solid young talent to go with Jarrod Saltalamacchia down the stretch.
They need look no further than Ryan Lavarnway who gives them the edge over the Yankees at the catcher position.
1B: Bryan LaHair, Chicago Cubs
3 of 92011 Statistics
Batting average: .331
Home runs: 38
RBI: 109
Hits: 151
With Carlos Pena involved in recent trade speculation and also playing under a high salary, bringing in Bryan LaHair should give boost to the Cubs.
If anything, it'll help build a foundation for 2012.
2B: Trevor Plouffe, Minnesota Twins
4 of 92011 Statistics
Batting Average: .313
Home runs: 15
RBI: 33
Hits: 60
Trevor Plouffe performed decently in 55 big league games earlier this season.
For what he's done in the Twins farm system, he should earn a consistent role at the major league level leading into 2012.
3B: Mat Gamel, Milwaukee Brewers
5 of 92011 Statistics
Batting Average: .320
Home runs: 28
RBI: 96
Hits: 151
Earlier this season Mat Gamel was called up and needless to say, didn't perform very well in the 10 games he was given.
However, a second chance should come for him, so it'll be interesting to see how being in a playoff race affects his performance.
SS: Grant Green, Oakland Athletics
6 of 92011 Statistics
Batting Average: .293
Home runs: 8
RBI: 61
Hits: 149
If there's one thing the A's need, it's offense.
Grant Green definitely can provide that, so adding him now would only help build momentum for next spring.
LF: Jerry Sands, Los Angeles Dodgers
7 of 92011 Statistics
Batting average: .287
Home runs: 28
RBI: 85
Hits: 102
Despite not performing too well in an early season call-up, Jerry Sands has gotten back on track and would be a solid addition in L.A.
He already has the big league experience, so the next step is to perform well in the majors.
And Dodgertown could use a lot of help for next season at this point.
CF: Leonys Martin, Texas Rangers
8 of 92011 Statistics
Batting average: .295
Home runs: 4
RBI: 42
Hits: 89
To give you an idea of Leonys Martin's talent, he began the season in the rookie league.
Seventy-three games later, he's on the brink of, literally, hitting it big.
And my, would he be a great addition to help Texas contend against Boston and New York.
RF: Jeremy Moore, Los Angeles Angels
9 of 92011 Statistics
Batting average: .298
Homeruns: 15
RBI: 66
Hits: 127
This season was Jeremy Moore's first opportunity at the Triple-A level.
Well, based on the evidence he has done very well, and the Angels could certainly use his services to catch the Texas Rangers.
Because as we know, only the division winner in the AL West makes the postseason.
