Browns vs. Bears: Is Greg Little the Best Sleeper WR in Fantasy Football?

Cian FaheySep 1, 2011

Greg Little was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft with the 59th overall selection.

Greg Little was not drafted by anyone in any of the eight fantasy drafts that I have done this season including one 16-team league.

Little has done little (I'm sorry, I really am) during the preseason to make an impact fantasy wise but he has more obstacles to overcome than most rookies entering the league this year as he tries to transition to the pro game.

After being ruled ineligible by the NCAA for his senior year, Little has not played football since the 2009 season. He is also arriving at a team that is instituting a brand new offense while lacking in veteran players at his position to guide him through his early struggles.

The one positive for Little however is the fact that the No. 1 receiver job in Cleveland is not promised to anyone. Mohammed Massquoi was solid last year but didn't show enough to be an uncontested presence atop the Cleveland depth chart.

Brian Robiskie has been uninspiring throughout his career but supposedly impressed everyone in training camp. However he hasn't done as much as Little has in preseason which is saying something.

The Browns likely wouldn't have been able to draft Little in the second round had he not been suspended in college after he proved to be a weapon at North Carolina in various ways. Little lined up as both a running back and receiver for the Tar Heels while also featuring for the college's basketball team.

This versatility is likely what attracted Pat Shurmur to the 22-year-old as he will perfectly fit the team's offensive identity. His 6'2", 220-pound frame is certainly not typical for a West Coast offense receiver but he has the agility to run various routes while his ability to run with the ball in his hands after spending time as a running back in college will give him YAC potential.

He hasn't starred in the preseason just yet but he has been heavily involved. After three regular season games he has seven receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown. The Browns figure to run the ball a lot this season but they will also be looking to put more of the offense on Colt McCoy's shoulders.

As that happens the value of McCoy's receivers goes up. Should Little push his way into the starting lineup he could very well become McCoy's go-to guy.

Little won't be drafted in most fantasy drafts but he will be a hot pickup on the waiver wire if he can establish himself in the Browns offense.

With more celebrated names like Dez Bryant, Emmanuel Sanders and Julio Jones falling to the late rounds, Greg Little could be the sleeper of all sleepers this year.
