Kentucky Wildcats: Five Great Highlights from the Kentucky "Pros" College Days
A couple of weeks ago, in preparation for Olympic qualifying, John Calipari matched up his Dominican Republic squad against an all-star team of former Kentucky players now making a living in the NBA. Over two games on back-to-back nights in Lexington and Louisville, the Kentucky Pros provided highlight after highlight for those lucky enough to attend.
And even though the Kentucky Pros actually lost both games, it was a hugely successful two-night event where the fans got to "show the love" to some beloved ex-Cats and some former stars got to bask in the glow of the college environment once again.
Still, while it was great to see these guys coming back from the pros, I just couldn't help but think that it was just more fun watching these guys play while they were in college and wearing the Kentucky uniform. So I got a bit nostalgic and decided to scour the Internet for highlights from these guys and their time in Lexington.
And I found plenty of good stuff.
Take That Vandy
1 of 5I had the good fortune to be at this game and believe me, this shot was infinitely more enjoyable in person. I still remember my dad and I rushing back to the car when it was over and trying to avoid absolutely irate Vandy fans who were convinced that the refs had just given them a royal hose job
However, it's still a great highlight to watch in the comfort of your home or office. Watch as Nazr Mohammed snatches victory from the jaws of defeat in one of the most improbable game-winners in Kentucky history.
Nooooo....YES!!!!!
2 of 5Trust me, you won't find a Kentucky fan anywhere that would have ever wanted Rajon Rondo taking a game-winning three pointer. None.
The guy was/is a terrible shooter.
And this was that patented moment when pretty much a whole arena knew the Wildcats were about to lose and then saw the amazing happen. He actually hit the damn shot.
My favorite part of the video is everything that went wrong though. Missed screens, refusing to pass to teammates...pretty much nothing about the play went right except for the end result.
We Won, Right?
3 of 5The sheer joy of a great play...
The star player making a star moment happen...
An entire team apparently not knowing what the score of the SEC championship game was!
Yep, this was a pretty funny/great moment in UK history.
54!
4 of 5Quite simply the best shooting performance in Kentucky history.
Jodie Meeks was absolutely on fire down in Knoxville on his way to claiming the single greatest scoring night in UK history. His 54 points were so amazing, and surprisingly effortless for the most part, that I don't think I even realized just how well Meeks was playing that night.
But he was incredible, making three after three and absolutely willing Kentucky to the victory.
Not a Prince, He's a King
5 of 5Possibly the loudest moment I've ever heard in Rupp Arena history. When that fifth three dropped, the roof nearly blew off of the place.
What a moment. I still get goosebumps watching this.
