5 Baltimore Ravens Who Moved Closer to Chopping Block After Redskins Game
"Chopping block" are the last two words that an NFL player wants to hear.
Many of them are resigned to fighting it as they enter training camp as just bodies to fill out the roster. Those players have long shots to make it onto the team but can increase those chances with solid play.
There are certain players that enter camp not expecting to be getting cut but can move towards the much feared position if they don't play to certain standards.
Like every other NFL franchise, those players exist in Baltimore with the Ravens also.
Jalen Parmele
1 of 5Parmele has had plenty of chances throughout the preseason, and he once again didn't take his chance last night. He has been outperformed by Anthony Allen while the arrival of Ricky Williams had already pushed him towards the door.
Two attempts for two yards and a fumble simply isn't getting things done.
Parmele is on his way to being a practice squad player at this rate.
Oniel Cousins
2 of 5Oniel Cousins is an unlikely name to get cut and in all likelihood, he will be with the team next month and beyond.
However, this offseason has gone from bad to worse for him. He started off the season at right tackle against the Eagles and was horrible in pass protection. An injury to Marshal Yanda moved him to guard against the Chiefs.
The signing of Mark LeVoir saw him moved back to the bench last night as Jah Reid remained the starter at right tackle. Cousins could be cut now that the team also added Bryant McKinney, but at best he's a versatile depth option.
David Reed
3 of 5The fact is life isn't fair.
David Reed has outplayed Torrey Smith so far in preseason and while Smith had one reception for six yards last night, Reed only had one reception for nine. His only reception came on a quick slant route that he wasn't able to carry for YAC.
Smith is essentially guaranteed his place with the team this year because he is the team's second-round draft choice, but David Reed doesn't have that to fall back on, so he needs to continually impress and put up better numbers than he did last night.
Dannell Ellerbe
4 of 5Dannell Ellerbe once again put up a couple of tackles, but he once again failed to make a real impact on the football game.
Ellerbe is a guy that showed a lot of flashes as a rookie but has never taken the next step. At this stage of his career, and against the level of talent he was playing against last night, Ellerbe should have had a better showing.
Brandon McKinney
5 of 5The Redskins had good success running to the left hand side of their offense when Brandon McKinney was on the field.
McKinney didn't look too motivated in stopping the run or chasing it down from behind, either, which is unacceptable from a player in his position. It's unacceptable from anyone, really, but McKinney doesn't even have the excuse of youth behind him as he is a six-year veteran.
