Boston Red Sox: Top Potential September Call-Ups
The Boston Red Sox will need to rely on some help from their September call-ups so that they can maintain their lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East. The two teams will likely battle it out until the last few days of the season, so any extra help will be greatly welcomed.
There are a few minor leaguers who could have a major impact for the Red Sox this year as well as in the future. One or two of them may even make the Red Sox playoff roster.
Lars Anderson
1 of 6It seems as if Lars Anderson has been on the brink of the majors for years now. While much of his luster has faded, Anderson is still a quality prospect.
Anderson should be a useful bat off the bench for the Red Sox this September. It seems likely that Anderson will be used mostly as a DH, but he could also see time as a backup first baseman.
Ryan Kalish
2 of 6Ryan Kalish has dealt with injuries this year which have prevented him from playing in the majors. He was just placed on the 7-day disabled list.
If Kalish is healthy enough to be called up to the majors in September, he will be a big boost to the Boston Red Sox outfield. He will be able to fill in the third outfield spot and could also be able to come in off of the bench.
Felix Doubront
3 of 6Felix Doubront will likely have the biggest impact out of any of the Boston Red Sox's potential September call-ups. Doubront started the year in the majors as a reliever but was sent down to the minors to be turned into a starter.
He has dealt with injuries throughout the season, but when he has been on the mound, Doubront has performed well. He should make some starts in September and could be a part of the Red Sox bullpen come October.
Jose Iglesias
4 of 6Jose Iglesias' bat may not be ready for the majors, but that does not mean that he cannot have a positive impact for the Boston Red Sox in September.
Iglesias has a great glove and is a solid defensive shortstop. He should serve as a defensive replacement and his defense is certainly an improvement over any other shortstop currently on the Red Sox roster.
Junichi Tazawa
5 of 6Junichi Tazawa has been a disappointment in his time with the Boston Red Sox. Once expected to be a starter for the Red Sox, Tazawa now may get a September call-up as a reliever.
The Red Sox have had Tazawa begin to pitch out of the bullpen this year and he has had decent results. He could also serve as a long man out of the bullpen to keep other pitchers from tiring out their arms.
Kyle Weiland
6 of 6Boston Red Sox fans already received their first glimpse of Kyle Weiland earlier this season. He could be back up to the major leagues in September.
Weiland will likely serve as a member of the Red Sox bullpen during the stretch run. If he pitches well, it will not be surprising to see him make the Red Sox playoff roster. He could also put himself in a great position to make the Red Sox out of Spring Training next season.
