New York Giants: 5 Players Who Disappointed Versus the Chicago Bears
The New York Giants destroyed the Chicago Bears 41-13 on Monday Night Football, but not all Giants played up to expectations.
The preseason is all about getting back into the swing of things and hashing out the kinks. The Giants still have work to do as a collective unit, especially if they want to claim the tough NFC East this year.
They may have won the game, but here are five New York Giants that disappointed.
5. Jason Pierre-Paul
1 of 5Jason Pierre-Paul is a beast of a man, and he pushed around his opponent all night, but never capitalized. The 6'5", 278-pound defensive end never touched Jay Cutler, and he didn't record a tackle all night.
The Giants need Pierre-Paul to step it up with Osi Umenyiora out for the time being. Known for a tough and ruthless defense, the Giants have to carry that on with both defensive ends contributing.
Unfortunately, the most contact Pierre-Paul made last night was when he collided with Terrell Thomas. The top cornerback for the Giants is now lost for the entire season with an ACL injury.
4. Kenny Phillips
2 of 5The Giants' starting strong safety made a few good tackles in the route over the Bears, but it was his coverage that really stood out.
Phillips was late to the ball and had poor communication with his cornerbacks—looking lost in coverage (not a good sign).
The last thing the Giants need is to start playing poor pass coverage. New York fans better hope the spotty coverage was just a fluke, because they're going to need to have another top 10 defense if they want to contend in the NFC East.
3. Ahmad Bradshaw
3 of 5The Giants' biggest offseason move was making sure Ahmad Bradshaw remained in New York.
He and Brandon Jacobs complement each other very well and the Giants need both to be workhorses so the season doesn't rest in the fate of Eli Manning.
Against the Bears, Bradshaw didn't look like he was ready for action. He had five carries for only 15 yards.
An average of three yards per carry will not cut it for Bradshaw, and if he doesn't turn it around before the season starts then Giants fans will not be too happy.
2. Hakeem Nicks
4 of 5One catch for negative one yards is a terrible night for any wide receiver. It's an even worse night when it's the stat line for your No. 1 target.
The Giants need Hakeem Nicks to be great in 2011 because with Steve Smith out, Nicks is now Manning's best option. He's entering his third season, which is the year most receivers are supposed to explode.
Nicks had a great 2010, and it's still the preseason, but he hasn't looked anything like his old self.
1. Eli Manning
5 of 5Many folks are wondering when Eli Manning is going to live up to his words and play like he is in the same class as Tom Brady.
Giants fans will stick by him, but even they have to admit Manning put up a poor showing on Monday night against the Bears.
He was 8-for-16 for 78 yards with a quarterback rating of 64. Some of his passes sailed over receivers while others fell short.
If you are going to pin yourself "elite," then you should be able to deliver big in limited action during the preseason; but Manning disappointed Monday night.
