National League MVP Prediction: It's All Wright (Almost)

Joe LazarNov 13, 2008

Now, I have been looking at the stats, and thinking back to this past MLB season. It's that time again, where we will crown a National League MVP. This has been a year where there is an excess number of candidates that make a compelling case to take home the top spot.

After carefully reviewing the numbers, I see a darkhorse candidate that will finish second and be surprisingly close to the top spot. But the top spot was filled already by a man who is so good, he's overlooked.

N.L. MVP: Albert Pujols, StL

- Guy is just too good. He's so good that this should kind of be a lifetime achievement award. I think, to repeat what SI said this year, he is just so good that people don't think about him. But he single-handedly kept the no-pitching Cardinals in it for most of the season with great stats.

Runner-Up: David Wright, NYM

- Hit .302 with 33 homers, 124 RBI, 115 runs, 15 SB, 42 doubles, .390 OBP, .924 OPS. He won a gold glove and a sliver slugger. Now, his .242 average with RISP is alarming, and with the Mets collapse, probably costs him my top vote. But you have to say he struggles for the right reasons (putting the entire Mets on his back). My early 2009 MVP pick.

3. Ryan Howard, PHI

4. Lance Berkman, HOU

5. Hanley Ramirez, FLA

6. Manny Ramirez, LA

7. Johan Santana, NYM

8. Ryan Braun, MIL

9. CC Sabathia, MIL

10. Aramis Ramirez, ChC
