AP Poll College Football 2011: The Biggest Recruiting Need of Every Top 25 Team

Edwin WeathersbyJun 5, 2018

While they may be among the top 25 teams in the country, every team in the AP Poll has a recruiting need. Replenishing your roster is a huge part of success, but filling your needs with great talent at that position is a home run.

For this read, I'm going to take a look at each team in the AP Poll Top 25 rankings and give you their biggest recruiting need for the 2012 recruiting cycle.

Here we go.

25. USC

1 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: OL, CB

USC did a better job at stocking their OL depth last year, but I think a couple more OLs in this year's class wouldn't hurt. Also, the secondary was weak last year sans Nikell Robey and T.J. McDonald, and I think a good CB would work here.

24. West Virginia

2 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: DT

Chris Neild is gone and Jorge Wright has been suspended in the past, so specifically a NT would work well for the Mountaineers' run defense. Trae Clark or Faith Ekakitie are a couple DTs in WVU's range.

23. Auburn

3 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: WR

The champs already have filled their need, if you ask me. Ricardo Louis plays QB right now in high school, but he will be a 6'2", 200 pound WR on the Plains. His size, speed and athleticism will easily translate well to the flanks.

22. Florida

4 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: OL, WR

The Gators have filled their OL needs with two outstanding commitments: D.J. Humphries and Jessamen Dunker. Adding an extra WR wouldn't hurt, but Florida is on an awesome pace.

21. Missouri

5 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: Dorial Green-Beckham

I know that's not a position, but Mizzou needs DGB. He's the No.1 recruit in the nation and from the state. If Missouri wants to take a jump up, getting DGB would be a prime symbol of them doing so.

Imagine the numbers we could put up in the Tiger spread offense?

20. Mississippi State

6 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: WR

Many of MSU's expected WR contributors this year are juniors and seniors. So getting a top flight WR recruit may be in store for Dan Mullen.

19. Georgia

7 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: OL, WR, LB

The Bulldogs got a great OL recruit in John Theus, but getting a few more would be great. They lost out on Shaq Roland at the WR spot, but D'Vario Montgomery would be a good get. Then another ILB to plug the run would not hurt.

18. Ohio State

8 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: TE, OT

The OTs of Adams and Shugarts are entering their senior seasons in Columbus. So bringing in a few recruits to add some depth could help. Also another TE may be a good idea.

17. Michigan State

9 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: DE

People around the Spartan program claim they have never had a dynamic pass rusher. Well, this year, they have got one in DE Se'Von Pittman. Although he's raw, Pittman has great speed and quickness to pressure the QB snap after snap.

16. Notre Dame

10 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: OL, RB

The Irish have six OLs within their 2-deep. Not good, so stocking up on more OL prospects again this class would be a good move. Players like Andrus Peat, Josh Garnett, Jordan Simmons and Zach Banner would be good gets.

Also, Cierre Wood is a junior, and getting Keith Marshall would be huge.

15. Arkansas

11 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: WR, DL

Childs, Wright and Adams are seniors and that's three dynamic perimeter players gone after this year. Jalen Cobb is a great WR commit, but Dorial Green-Beckham would be even better. Also adding some mass to the DT spot to plug holes would fit.

14. TCU

12 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: DE

The Horned Frogs had a great defense last year, though they lacked a good pass rushing threat. I think finding a good DE this year to fight and pressure the passer would work well when they're in Big East play next year.

13. Virginia Tech

13 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: WR

For me, I think every few years the Hokies land a top flight prospect. You know, Michael Vick, Kevin Jones, Logan Thomas, etc. They also lose Jarrette Boykin and Danny Coale after this year.

So Stefon Diggs would be huge.

12. South Carolina

14 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: DB

The Gamecocks need to shore up their backend, as Stephon Gilmore likely won't be in Columbia next year. So a couple CBs and rangy free safeties would be good finds to develop.

11. Wisconsin

15 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: QB

Getting Russell Wilson is a great thing, but he's only going to be in Camp Randall this season and this season only. There have been injury issues and uncertainty with the other QBs. Bart Houston, a Badger QB commit, is a good get.

10. Nebraska

16 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: WR

Doesn't it seem like the Cornhuskers rarely have a dominant WR, if ever? I know they're a big time rushing team, but a WR would open things up even more for the ground game going forward in the Big Ten.

Amara Darboh would be a nice get.

9. Oklahoma State

17 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: DT

The Pokes lost both DTs from last year and their defense is going to be the weakness of the team because of the offense's quick scoring prowess. Getting some beef like Javonte Maggee would be good.

Maggee is already 275 pounds and could easily add 25 more pounds on his 6'6" frame.

8. Texas A&M

18 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: RB, WR

The Aggies have four WRs in the 2-deep that are already juniors and both 2-deep RBs will be gone within two years as well. Yet, they have commitments from RB Trey Williams and WRs Bralon Addison and Jaevon Richardson.

Matt Davis is a QB and Corey Thompson is an OLB/DB but both have also been mentioned as possible WRs for Mike Sherman.

7. Stanford

19 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need:  DB, DL

The secondary was fine last year, but may see a regression in 2011. The DL is also lacking a NT and DE could see some added depth on that unit.

6. Florida State

20 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: QB, RB

Both of these needs are not huge glaring ones, and looking at FSU roster and combining it with their past couple recruiting classes, I see a ton of talent up and down this roster.

The Noles already got QB Jamies Winston to commit and the same goes for talented RB Mario Pender, who will make a great tandem with James Wilder.

5. Boise State

21 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: WR, LB

The Broncos lost Young and Pettis and the WRs on the roster now are average at best. Kellen Moore will make them look better. Moving forward, BSU needs a dynamic No. 1 WR and also a couple upgrades at LB.

4. LSU

22 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: OG

There are three seniors along the interior OG spots, so maybe adding a few big guards would help. Perhaps the continued highly intense courtship of Vadal Alexander will work out, as he is a talented player that fills a need.

3. Oregon

23 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: TE

The Ducks have a commitment from a 6'6" TE prospect in Evan Bayliss. His length and skill set will fill a need as the top two TEs are upperclassmen.

2. Alabama

24 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: TE, OL, DL

The Tide have seven upperclassmen among their TE and OL 2-deep list. So adding some depth there would be good. Also, there are six upperclassmen among the DL front.

1. Oklahoma

25 of 25

Biggest Recruiting Need: FS

I think adding a safety would be a good thing for the Sooners. Specifically, a free safety. Jovon Harriss and Sam Proctor are underclassmen, and Frank Shannon will need some more depth with him.
