Top 50 Players in the NFL Today Who Will Never Win a Super Bowl

Tony SantorsaJun 3, 2018

I'm sorry to say it, but not everyone in the NFL retires with a Super Bowl ring.  It just doesn't happen that way.

No matter how much talent you have, it still takes a team effort to win it all. Take, for example, Dan Marino.

He is arguably the greatest passer to ever play the game, but he was never able to carry his team to the promised land. Blame it on his supporting cast or simply on him, but he never won a Super Bowl.

In that spirit, here are the top 50 players that will never win a Super Bowl.

50. Vince Young

1 of 50

If it weren't for the Philadelphia Eagles needing a backup quarterback so bad, I strongly believe that Vince Young's career could have been almost over.

After Young's one-year string with the Eagles, I have no idea where he'll end up. If he wants to be a starter, I really do not see him leading his team to a Super Bowl.

49. Matt Hasselbeck

2 of 50

It's all but over for quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. He had his chance in Seattle but lost against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL.

Unless Hasselbeck can lead the Titans to a Super Bowl in the next three seasons, which is highly unlikely, he'll retire without a ring.

48. Shawne Merriman

3 of 50

Unless Shawne Merriman signs with another team in the near future, he will have no shot at winning a Super Bowl as a member of the Buffalo Bills.

Do I really need to say more?

47. Shaun Phillips

4 of 50

I know that this is going to get people going, but I do not see the San Diego Chargers winning a Super Bowl in a long time—until Norv Turner retires or is fired.

Shaun Phillips is definitely a talented linebacker and has been a sack machine over the course of his career. But as a member of the Chargers, I do not see him winning a title.

46. Brian Orakpo

5 of 50

Outside linebacker Brian Orakpo is a two-time Pro Bowler and a monster in disrupting the pass. However, as a member of the Washington Redskins, he wont be getting a ring anytime soon—unless Washington can end up drafting Andrew Luck in 2012.

45. Leon Hall

6 of 50

The 26-year-old cornerback for the Cincinnati Bengals is still young and productive but won't come close to winning a title in Cincinnati.

The Bengals have many issues moving forward and will need to have a lot of things go their way for them to win a championship.

44. Jordan Gross

7 of 50

Jordan Gross is one of the best left tackles in all of football, but he plays for the lowly Carolina Panthers.

Hopefully Cam Newton can be the answer for the franchise.

43. Adrian Wilson

8 of 50

Adrian Wilson is a life-long Arizona Cardinal and will likely retire as one of the franchise's best players, but he'll retire without a ring.

The Cardinals had their chance back in 2008 against the Steelers but fell short.

42. Cortland Finnegan

9 of 50

Believe it or not, Cortland Finnegan is one of the NFL's most dominating cornerbacks.

However, playing for the Tennessee Titans, I do not see that franchise winning any Super Bowls from now or until Finnegan decides to hang up his cleats.

41. Brandon Marshall

10 of 50

Brandon Marshall made one of the biggest mistakes when he signed with the Miami Dolphins for five years. Miami is not going to a Super Bowl anytime soon.

Unless Marshall can make his way to a team like Pittsburgh, New England or Green Bay, he'll be retiring ring-less.

40. Matt Schaub

11 of 50

Year in and year out, the Houston Texans are projected to make a run for the playoffs—but the team has failed every single season.

Sooner or later the team is going to have to move on without quarterback Matt Schaub, as he's proving to be not good enough to carry his team to the postseason.

39. Terrell Owens

12 of 50

Terrell Owens will go down as not only one of the best wide receivers but as one of the greatest players to ever play in the NFL. However, T.O. could end up ring-less.

T.O. had his chance in 2004 with the Eagles but fell short against the New England Patriots.

Unless T.O. proves to a potential Super Bowl contender that his knee is completely healthy, he won't be making a run to the Super Bowl.

38. Vernon Davis

13 of 50

Vernon Davis is a solid tight end, one of the league's best, but he will not win a title as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers simply have too many issues, one being the quarterback position.

Until the 49ers solve their issues at quarterback, they will not be making any Super Bowl runs anytime soon.

37. Carson Palmer

14 of 50

Is Carson Palmer retired yet? If so, he'll be retiring without a Super Bowl ring.

However, if Palmer is traded, he'll likely end up going to a team that is not a contender. At 31 years old, the clock is ticking for the former USC standout.

36. Lance Briggs

15 of 50

The Chicago Bears just can't get over the hump, and by the time they actually do, it may be too late for the 30-year-old Lance Briggs.

Briggs is one of the league's most fierce linebackers, but he can't solve the offensive line issues that the Bears are currently having.

35. Jon Beason

16 of 50

Jon Beason is a two-time All-Pro, but he plays for the Carolina Panthers—that should sum it up for you.

The Panthers are not going anywhere anytime soon.

34. Brian Urlacher

17 of 50

The clock is ticking for Brian Urlacher as he's 33 years old and without a ring.

Urlacher will go down as one of the best linebackers of our generation and is without a doubt a future Hall of Famer, but there's a strong possibility he'll be inducted without a ring on his finger.

33. Elvis Dumervil

18 of 50

Elvis Dumervil is a fierce defensive end for the Denver Broncos, but remember, he plays for the Broncos.

The Broncos have so many questions offensively and defensively, but it will be a real long shot that all will be solved by the time that Dumervil retires.

If I was Elvis, I'd try to get way out of Denver ASAP.

32. Clinton Portis

19 of 50

It's just about over for Clinton Portis. His career is near the end.

Portis has had many injury problems throughout his career in the NFL but will be remembered as one dominating running back.

Portis is currently a free agent, and unless he signs with a Super Bowl contending franchise, there's arguably no shot he'll win a ring by the time he retires.

31. Cameron Wake

20 of 50

Cameron Wake emerged as one of the premiere pass rushers in 2010, but he plays for the subpar Miami Dolphins.

At 29 years old, Wake is not a free agent until 2013, and I'm finding it hard to believe that the Dolphins will be winning any Super Bowls from now until then.

30. Tamba Hali

21 of 50

The 27-year-old Tamba Hali recently signed a five-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, and that could spell trouble in his search for a Super Bowl ring.

The Chiefs are definitely headed in the right direction, but as long as Todd Healy is head coach for KC, I simply don't think he's good enough to cut it as as Super Bowl winning head coach.

29. Steve Hutchinson

22 of 50

The 33-year-old Steve Hutchinson is entering the twilight of his career and has zero rings to show for it.

Hutchinson is a seven-time All-Pro offensive guard and is currently under contract with the Minnesota Vikings, and unfortunately, I do not see the Vikes making any strides for a Super Bowl in the next three to four years.

28. Tony Romo

23 of 50

I hate to break it to you, Cowboy Fans, but I do not see Tony Romo leading your team to the Super Bowl in the near future—he's simply not a winner.

Romo has only won one playoff game as a starter for Dallas and just falls apart in the playoffs. It's like he's the anti-clutch.

27. Rashean Mathis

24 of 50

Good news for Rashean Mathis. He's going to be a free agent in 2012.

Where Mathis decides to sign will determine if he'll have a shot at getting a ring.

At 30 years old, he better not re-sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars if he has any interest in winning a title.

26. Donovan McNabb

25 of 50

The end is near for Donovan McNabb

McNabb was brought into Minnesota to be the bridge for rookie quarterback Christian Ponder.

The Vikings are moving forward but have an aging defense, and I'm not too sure that McNabb still has enough left in his tank to make a deep playoff run with Minnesota anytime soon.

25. Jason Witten

26 of 50

There are almost no negative things to say about Jason Witten. It's not his fault that Tony Romo is the team's quarterback.

As long as Witten is playing with Romo, he'll never win a ring.

I'm sorry and I know that this is harsh, but it's my opinion.

24. DeAngelo Williams

27 of 50

DeAngelo Williams must have a lot of faith in rookie Cam Newton, as he recently signed a five-year contract with the Carolina Panthers.

Williams' chance of winning a Super Bowl relies on the growth of Newton.

23. DeSean Jackson

28 of 50

I know, I know, DeSean Jackson is very young and very talented. However, with Michael Vick at quarterback, I don't see the Eagles making a push for a Super Bowl.

Sure, the Eagles will make the playoffs for a while now, but Vick hasn't impressed in the playoffs and is a questionable starter when the game is meaningful.

Just look at his entire career!

22. Jamaal Charles

29 of 50

I know, this is a bold prediction, but I find it hard to believe that Jamaal Charles will have a ring by the time he retires.

Granted, he's only 24 years old, but remember that running back's shelf-lives aren't very long, and as long as Todd Healy is the head coach in KC, the team is going to go nowhere near a title.

21. Trent Cole

30 of 50

At 28 years old, it's make it or break it time for Trent Cole.

The reason why Cole is on the list is because he plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. In Andy Reid's era as head coach in Philly, the team simply doesn't perform well deep into the playoffs.

Granted, they'll make it to a certain point, but then they'll just fall apart.

20. Jay Ratliff

31 of 50

Jay Ratliff is slowly emerging as one of the NFL's most dominating nose guards in the 3-4 defense as a Dallas Cowboy.

However, one problem for Ratliff, Tony Romo is the quarterback of the team.

Romo does not have the stuff to win a Super Bowl which means that Ratliff will likely not have a ring by the team he retires.

19. LaDainian Tomlinson

32 of 50

The time is almost up for LaDainian Tomlinson's illustrious yet ring-less career.

If L.T. doesn't win a title in New York in the next couple of years, he'll be remembered as one of the worst playoff running backs in the history of the sport.

18. Frank Gore

33 of 50

Frank Gore is often injured and is likely one injury away from retiring.

As long as Gore is in San Francisco, he won't be hoisting a trophy in the near future. The 49ers have issues at quarterback and must address it for them to be competitive.

17. Steven Jackson

34 of 50

I have a lot of respect for Steven Jackson, as he's been a lifetime St. Louis Ram and has given the franchise everything he's got. However, he'll likely walk away from the sport ring-less.

I have a feeling that Jackson will be remembered as the Dan Marino of the running back position, right up there with Barry Sanders, simply not good enough to carry your team to a Super Bowl title.

16. Maurice Jones-Drew

35 of 50

Maurice-Jones Drew has been a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars for a while now.

At 26 years old, Jones-Drew will not be a free agent until 2014. Then at 29, his career could be coming to an end, considering that running backs don't tend to have long careers in the NFL.

MJD is definitely a talented back, but is stuck on a team that is rebuilding.

15. Philip Rivers

36 of 50

Like Tony Romo, I have a real hard time seeing Philip Rivers ever winning a Super Bowl during his career.

Rivers has his troubles in the regular season, just like the entire Chargers roster and then turns it on toward the end of the season. However, come playoff time, he has real difficult time beating the league's elite defenses.

14. Michael Roos

37 of 50

The 28-year-old Michael Roos is one of the Tennessee Titans' best players. That's great and all, but he won't be winning a title as long as he's playing for the Titans.

Roos better be hoping that Chris Johnson and Jake Locker turn into quite the dynamic duo if he wants a ring.

13. Ryan Clady

38 of 50

Ryan Clady is still young at 24 years old but is not a free agent until 2013.

Clady is one of the NFL's best left tackles but will have trouble winning a Super Bowl with the Broncos from now until 2013.

If I'm Clady, I'd definitely go elsewhere once my contract expires.

12. Mario Williams

39 of 50

It's not Mario Williams' fault, it's just that the Houston Texans can't take it to the playoffs.

Every single season the Texans are projected to duke it out with the Colts for the AFC South, but they always fail and can't even snag a wild-card spot.

Williams is a free agent next offseason, and I'd hope that he'd sign with a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers,  New York Jets or the New England Patriots.

11. Jared Allen

40 of 50

Jared Allen really screwed himself to a wall as he signed a contract that makes him a Viking until 2014. By then, he'll be 32 years old.

Allen had his shot at a title in 2009 but fell short against the Saints in the NFC title game.

Allen is definitely a playmaker and could be a huge contributor on a Super Bowl-caliber team, but as of right now, the Vikings are nowhere close to be a Super Bowl contender.

10. Antonio Gates

41 of 50

Antonio Gates will go down as one of the sport's greatest tight ends, but he'll likely be ring-less.

As long as Gates is a member of the San Diego Chargers, he'll likely have no shot at winning a title, as they're one of the greatest chokers of all time.

9. Larry Fitzgerald

42 of 50

Larry Fitzgerald is one of the hardest working plays in the league, but his shoulders aren't big enough to carry his team to a Super Bowl victory, despite almost doing it in 2008.

Once Fitzgerald hits the open market, he needs to sign with a team with great chances to make a Super Bowl run.

8. Joe Thomas

43 of 50

Joe Thomas is the NFL's second-best offensive linemen, but he's not going anywhere as a Cleveland Brown.

The Browns have had so many issues over the past decade and haven't been able to find a long-term answer for head coach.

Once Thomas enters free agency in 2012, I'd suggest that he looks to join a contending football team.

7. DeMarcus Ware

44 of 50

It's not DeMarcus Ware's fault, it's Tony Romo's fault.

I know that I'm coming off as a huge anti-Tony Romo kind of guy, but look at this way. He has failed miserably in the playoffs from day one.

Ware is definitely a stud pass-rusher and could be a huge contributor on a Super Bowl contending team, not a pretender like the Cowboys.

6. Michael Vick

45 of 50

I hate to break it to you Philly fans, but Michael Vick isn't a playoff quarterback. Well, according to his history.

Vick is the NFL's most electric quarterback, but has had many flaws in key, critical situations.

5. Chris Johnson

46 of 50

Chris Johnson is one of the NFL's most explosive and elusive players. However, he doesn't have what it takes to carry his team all the way to a Super Bowl.

Johnson did have a phenomenal season back in 2009, when he crossed the 2,000 yard-mark, but his Tennessee Titans only managed to go 8-8.

The only way that I see CJ winning it all is if rookie Jake Locker develops into a franchise quarterback—but it's still going to take a whole lot more than that.

4. Adrian Peterson

47 of 50

Adrian Peterson is the NFL's most well-rounded running back. He's the ultimate franchise running back. However, at this point of his career, I don't believe that he's going to win anything with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings have an unclear future at quarterback, as rookie Christian Ponder is questionable, and the team is getting older on defense.

3. Andre Johnson

48 of 50

No matter how good of a wide receiver you are, you still can't carry your team all the way. Sorry, Andre Johnson.

Johnson is an amazing talent but doesn't have the right supporting cast defensively in Houston.

2. Jake Long

49 of 50

It's really a shame that the NFL's best left tackle plays for the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are going nowhere in the future, especially without a quarterback.

If Miami can somehow grab an NFL-ready quarterback soon, then Long will do whatever it takes to get a ring.

1. Patrick Willis

50 of 50

Patrick Willis is a franchise linebacker, but he's definitely not going to win a Super Bowl in San Francisco—unless the 49ers can grow their own supply of Joe Montana-like quarterbacks.

Defenses may win championships, but you need an offense to get there.
