Jets vs. Texans: 4 Rookies Fans Should Watch in Preseason Week 1 Finale
When the New York Jets take on the Houston Texans on Monday night, there will be plenty of rookies to look out for.
On the Texans' side, there will be a couple of defensive youngsters looking to make an impact on their new team.
On the Jets' side, there will be one defensive rookie trying to replace Shaun Ellis and an offensive rookie looking to contribute from the wide receiver position.
Here's a look at four rookies fans should watch out for on Monday night.
Texans: Brooks Reed, OLB/DE
1 of 4The Texans used their second-round draft pick on Brooks Reed from Arizona.
Reed is a high-energy OLB/DE who has a nose for the football on defense.
He should be a big help for Mario Williams when it comes to pressuring the opposing QB.
With his long hair flowing out of his helmet, it'll be interesting to see if he reminds people of another long-haired OLB who just won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers.
Texans: J.J. Watt, DE
2 of 4The Texans also used their first-round draft pick on pass-rush help.
Watt, from Wisconsin, will eventually develop into a nice complement to Mario Williams.
But will he do it this year, or will it be a couple years down the road?
We'll get to see how far he's come on Monday night.
Jets: Jeremy Kerley, WR
3 of 4The Jets used a fifth-round draft pick on Kerley, a wide receiver from TCU.
That, of course, was before they added Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason to a receiving corps that already featured Santonio Holmes.
Now, Kerley will be fighting for the No. 4 WR spot.
He should get plenty of playing time on Monday night, giving fans a good chance to see what he can do.
Jets: Muhammad Wilkerson, DL
4 of 4Wilkerson was the Jets' first-round draft pick in 2011.
He's a beast of a defensive lineman, standing 6'4" tall and weighing in at 315 pounds.
He had 10 sacks at Temple last season, and the Jets will be hoping for a similar level of production in 2011.
The New York defensive line lost Shaun Ellis to the New England Patriots, so Rex Ryan and company are counting on Wilkerson to replace a large chunk of that production.
