Predicting the Top 10 Freshman Shooters for 2011

Doug BrodessJun 7, 2018

College Basketball gets a fresh supply of super shooters in every recruiting class.

This year is no different.

Plenty of perimeter players can nail shots from all over the court.

Many of these marksmen will make a difference to the outcomes of games on a nightly basis.

The following 10 incoming freshmen are the best shooters in the Class of 2011.

Check out the sick video clips for each player. These guys are amazing!

10. Dai-Jon Parker, Vanderbilt

1 of 10

Dai-Jon Parker will have a chance to get his feet well planted on the Vanderbilt hardwood this season.

With the returning talent that the Commodores will put on the floor in 2011-12, Parker should get a truck-load of good looks.

He can bury jumpers from anywhere this side of half court.

9. Trevor Lacey, Alabama

2 of 10

Some shooters specialize in one type of shot.

Alabama's Trevor Lacey can hit contested shots, shots off the dribble, pick-and-pops...

You name it, he can hit it.

And Lacey can't get to Tuscaloosa fast enough. The Crimson Tide need his help!

Anthony Grant's 2010-11 squad was ranked No. 327 in the nation (29.8 percent) from beyond the arc.

They only averaged 4.1 made three's per game last year.

Lacey may have some games in the upcoming season where he hits four shots from downtown himself.

8. Nick Faust, Maryland

3 of 10

New Terrapins head coach Mark Turgeon is going to love having Nick Faust on the floor.

Faust has a quick release and a great stroke from beyond the arc.

But the fact that he can pull up and hit the mid-range jumper and take it to the rim keeps defenders honest.

7. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Georgia

4 of 10

Whether his opponents play man, zone or any other kind of defense against him, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope can put the ball in the basket.

And he can do it from all over the court.

KC-P's shooting range and ability stretches defenses and creates opportunities for his teammates to have easier looks at the basket.

He will be an important weapon for Bulldogs' coach Mark Fox as he preps to challenge the upper-echelon of the SEC.

6. Jabari Brown, Oregon

5 of 10

Jabari Brown may be the best pure shooter in the West.

He will help head coach Dana Altman and the Ducks as they make their way into the upper-level of the new Pac-12.

Brown is strong enough to post opponents up. But he can also spot up beyond the arc or knock down the mid-range pulls.

5. Wayne Blackshear, Louisville

6 of 10

Wayne Blackshear is one of the most versatile wing players in the Class of 2011.

One of the best players out of Chicago this year, Blackshear averaged 33.7 ppg, 16.5 rpg and 6.3 apg as a senior.

He can step out and hit shots from distance, or he can powerfully finish in the lane.

Blackshear's game seems perfectly suited for Rick Pitino's wide-open, get up and down style of play at Louisville.

The Cardinals launched 829 three's (24 per game) last season, good for fifth most in the nation.

4. Michael Carter-Williams, Syracuse

7 of 10

Even with the return of veteran Orange guards Scoop Jardine and Brandon Triche, it will be difficult for Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim to keep Michael Carter-Williams off the court.

Carter-Williams' silky shooting touch from beyond the arc will spread the floor and make the Orange's opponents play honestly.

Even if MC-W doesn't start, he will see plenty of action right from the beginning of his Syracuse career.

3. P.J. Hairston, North Carolina

8 of 10

P.J. Hairston is a fearless shooter who can blow a game wide open with his ability to put the ball in the hole.

He is a great combination of strength, size and skill.

Tar Heels coach Roy Williams will most likely give Hairston a lot of opportunities early on because of the offseason injury to Leslie McDonald and the continued recovery of Reggie Bullock.

2. Brad Beal, Florida

9 of 10

With super-talented guards Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton returning for the Gators, I could very easily see Flordia coach Billy Donovan going with a three-guard starting lineup, with Brad Beal filling the final spot.

Beal is just that good to force a lineup change.

The 2011 Gatorade Player of the Year averaged over 32 points his senior season and will bring that same scorer's mentality to Gainseville.

Watch out, SEC! Here comes Brad Beal!

1. Austin Rivers, Duke

10 of 10

The best shooter in the incoming freshman class is Austin Rivers.

Not only does Rivers have range beyond the NBA three-point line, he is just as deadly driving and pulling up or hitting floaters over the top of bigs of any size.

With a killer jab-step, he freezes defenders and creates his own open looks.

Rivers may not only be the best shooter in the incoming freshman class, he may be the best shooter in all of college basketball.
