Did Barack Obama Diss Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler in Wish for Aaron Rodgers?

Andrew RobesonJun 7, 2018

As is tradition, the Green Bay Packers visited the White House Friday as Super Bowl Champions.

It is a well known fact that President Barack Obama is both from Chicago and huge Bears fan, so naturally there was a lot of good-natured ribbing.

When the Packers gave him an honorary share of Packers stock, Obama had an idea. ESPN reports an exchange between Charles Woodson and Obama went down like this,

"If I'm a part owner, what I'm thinking is we should initiate a trade to send Rodgers down to the Bears. What do you think?"

Woodson then clarified that Obama is "a minority owner."

"

Uh-oh. That is sure to get some people in Chicago talking. Was Obama dissing Jay Cutler?

Yes, and no.

Obama obviously didn't say that Cutler sucks, nor did he even imply that Cutler was a bad starter. What he did imply is that Rodgers is a better quarterback than Cutler. Shocking, I know.

Frankly there's probably few teams in the NFL that wouldn't want Rodgers starting for them, so this dissing of Cutler idea has got to go. I'm sure even Cutler realizes Rodgers is better than him, though he may never acknowledge it.

Last season Cutler threw for 3,274 yards, 23 touchdowns, 16 interceptions and fumbled the ball an additional nine times.

By contrast Rodgers threw for 3,922 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and only fumbled twice.

Let's not blow this into something larger than it is. All Obama did was state the obvious: The Bears would love to have Rodgers as their quarterback. So would probably every other team in the NFL besides maybe the Colts, Saints, Chargers and Eagles. Heck, they still might even want him.

When Obama says that Cutler sucks, let me know. Then we can talk about him dissing him.
