Duke Basketball Recruiting: What If Andre Drummond Enrolls at Duke This Season?

Ro ShiellJun 7, 2018

Mike DeCourcy recently wrote that Andre Drummond has three weeks to decide on prep school or college this year.

Drummond is the consensus No. 1 recruit for the class of 2012 but he could reclassify and enter college this fall.

His lists of schools are down to Connecticut, Pitt, Duke, Georgetown, Louisville and North Carolina.

Any one of these teams can make room for Drummond but because they are already solid at the center position, let's rule out Pitt, Connecticut and North Carolina.

Conecticut has Alex Oriakhi, North Carolina has John Henson and Tyler Zeller with top-five 2011 recruit James MaCadoo competing for playing time. Pitt has 2011 No. 1 center Khem Birch coming in.

That leaves Georgetown, Louisville and Duke.

Pitino plays a very complicated type of offense that's not really geared towards showing anyone off for the NBA. Georgetown has great tradition of Big men but at the moment Duke can provide the best fit for Drummond.

Slide Mason Plumlee over to his natural power forward spot, Austin Rivers and Andre Dawkins on the wings with Seth Curry at point.

Or you can mix it up. Either way, Duke would have to be considered a Final Four team with Drummond in the middle.

He is not applauded for being a great offensive player but defensively he will alter shots and protect the base line. At 6'11" he will be a big target for easy baskets in the paint.

DeCourcy reckons that Drummond would prove his doubters wrong by enrolling in college this year rather than spending another year dunking on high school kids.

If Duke gets this recruit they will not only challenge North Carolina for top dog in the ACC but may take that No.1 ranking as well.
