Manufacturing the Perfect Quarterback

The NFL is filled with spectacular quarterbacks who all carry different strengths and weaknesses.  However, if we could manufacture the perfect quarterback by using attributes from current NFL players, who would we choose?  There are 10 categories:

1. Arm Strength 

2. Arm Accuracy

3. Football IQ

4. Clutch

5. Speed and Agility

6. Frame

7. Presence in the Pocket 

8. Leadership

9. Improvisation or "Making something out of nothing"

10. Work Ethic

Arm Strength: Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

In no way is he a great NFL quarterback, but his arm is spectacular.  No quarterback in the NFL puts more zip on the ball than Jay Cutler.  When given time, he can launch the ball anywhere on the field.  Cutler has been known to overthrow receivers who are 50 yards down the field.  Although his accuracy is questionable, his arm strength is the best in the NFL.  

Runner Up: Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

Arm Accuracy: Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees is insanely accurate, as he had the highest completion percentage last year. Although he threw 22 interceptions in the past year, he has been able to complete more passes due to his near perfect placement of the football. No other quarterback can pinpoint a football quite like Brees.  

Runner Up:  Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Football IQ: Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts

Is there any question about this one?  Manning has been known to audible up to 11 times before one play in order to find ways to find holes in the defense.  Manning has made his career on knowledge and calling plays at the line.  Manning finds ways to confuse the defense like no other quarterback, as he calls many bluffs, play fakes and adjustments.  

Runner Up:  Tom Brady, New England Patriots

Clutch: Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay

Who does it better in the clutch?  Rodgers is having a spectacular season while taking the Packers to a formidable 12-0 record for the first time in Packers' history.  

Runner Up:  Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos

Speed and Agility: Michael Vick, Philadelphia

His season has been miserable, but he damn well can run.  He's the fastest QB in the NFL and when he's on, can rip a defense apart.  

Runner Up:  Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

Frame: Cam Newton, Carolina

Newton is 6'6", 250lbs.  He is the next generation of NFL QBs and is the best running quarterback in the NFL due to his speed, strength and vision.  

Runner Up:  Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pocket Presence: Tom Brady, New England

He stands, bounces, and fires picture perfect passes on nearly every play.  His ability to step up and manipulate the pocket gives defensive coordinators nightmares.  At 6'4", his ability to see over the line already is intimidating, but Brady rises to 6'8" when on his toes and jumping.  He can see over any line and can complete passes at will.  (Credit to Sports Science for the fact on Brady's height)

Runner Up:  Drew Brees, New Orleans

Leadership: Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos

He's cocky, he's bold, he's a great person.  Tebow inspires others around him and is a fierce competitor.  Despite his constant remarks about God which make him a target off the field, Tebow fires up his teammates and is the sole reason for the Broncos' success this year.  

Runner Up:  Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay

Improvisation: Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh

Big Ben has been known to play through pain to win.  His habit of holding onto the ball and running out of the pocket in order to find an open man make him extremely fun to watch.  Without this ability, Roethlisberger might be working on a farm now.

Runner Up:  Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

Work Ethic: Tim Tebow

(See Slide 8).  Nobody works harder than Tebow.  However, what sets him apart is how he gets others to work hard.  Tebow gives Bronco nation hope while making John Fox look great.
