NFL Free Agent Rumors: 9 Players Who May Be Re-Signed

Frank PassalacquaJun 7, 2018

As the crazy week kicks off, you can bet this will be the most chaotic week in the history of the NFL.

Literally months of work and transactions will all be done in three days total, and the news will be flooded. With the countless talks about undrafted free agents, rookie signings, player cuts and trades, it's time to end the rumors and cut to reality.

Free agency is a huge deal, for both teams and the players. While most people tend to think free agency is just about players finding a new home for next season, you have to remember that it is also a chance for teams to re-sign the important players on the team they would like to keep.

Not every player in the free agency pool will be returning to their team next season, so let's look at the players who will be.

Here are the nine players who have the best change of being re-signed for the 2011 season.

9. Tyson Clabo

1 of 9

2010 team: Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have really gotten their organization back to the top of the league.

After drafting Matt Ryan, the Falcons have seen nothing but success. OT Tyson Clabo is a reason Ryan has become so comfortable at QB, and he will be re-signed.

Clabo is a Pro-Bowl offensive tackle who was drafted 2004, but didn't make an impact until he was traded to the Falcons in 2006.

Expect Clabo to be back in the ATL next year.

8. John Kuhn

2 of 9

2010 team: Green Bay Packers

The Green Pay Packers have a lot of All-Stars on that talented roster. Would you consider John Kuhn to be one of them?

Believe it or not, Kuhn had a major impact on the Packers' Super Bowl run last season and will be looking to do so again in 2011. He may have only ran the ball 84 times for 281 yards and four touchdowns last year, but they all came at the right time.

The city and fans of Green Bay have found a special place for Kuhn inside their hearts, and I certainly expect to see him back in yellow next year.

7. DeAngelo Williams

3 of 9

2010 team: Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers have to be happy about 2011.

They are coming of the worst season in many many years and next year can only get better. The Panthers took Cam Newton with the first pick in the draft, so the spark is all over the team.

There are a lot of questions though about who will re-sign with the team. Steve Smith is looking like he will not return next year, but I think running back DeAngelo Williams will.

Last season was dampened by injuries, but the Panthers have seen what he is capable of and would certainly be hurting if they let him go away.

2008 was Williams best year, with 1,515 yards and 18 touchdowns.

If Williams stays healthy, he and the Panthers hope he can have the playing relapse of a few years ago.

Update: DeAngelo Williams was re-signed by the Panthers: 5-years $43 million

6. Jacoby Jones

4 of 9

2010 team: Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a team on the verge of breaking out.

Jacoby Jones isn't the main man in Houston by a long-shot, but he adds depth to the passing game. Jones is a man on a pretty decent wide-receiver squad with Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter.

Last season, the trio totaled for around 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Texans have already expressed their interest in re-signing Jones and will most likely do so. Arian Foster and Andre Johnson are a threat and no team looks forward to defending them, now it is time that Jacoby Jones adds his name to that list and gives defense something to talk about.

5. BenJarvus Green-Ellis

5 of 9

Don't you love saying that name? Let's stick with BGE for short.

The Patriots always seem to find a diamond or two each and every year. Last season, they saw BGE and Danny Woodhead emerge as stars in Foxboro. BGE is someone the Pats have their eyes on to keep.

BGE is currently a free agent and has a second-round tender attached to him, meaning that if a team would like to sign him, they would have to give up their second-round pick. Not too many teams are going to be willing to throw that away so quickly, so I'd expect BGE to return next season.

Last year was the year of BGE's life, and it should be noted.

BGE carved up opponents for 1,008 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also isn't someone the Patriots have to worry about turning the ball over, because he has never fumbled in his life. Yes, not in the NFL, college, or high school.

I would expect that Bill Belichick knows what he as in BGE, which is why I think he will be re-signed.

4. Kevin Boss

6 of 9

2010 team: New York Giants

The New York Giants have a pretty solid tight end in Kevin Boss. he has always been there to make that big play and always puts up consistent numbers year after year.

Boss has been with the Giants since 2007, and has really made a name for himself.

Last season, he averaged 15 yards per catch for 531 yards and 5 touchdowns. The numbers aren't outstanding, but he gets the job done.

Boss is a giant Giant, standing at 6'6'' and weighing 253 pounds. His size is a big reason why he is capable of making the clutch plays.

The Giants will definitely re-sign Boss. There aren't many talented players available at the tight end position, and Boss fits in just fine.

3. Sidney Rice

7 of 9

2010 team: Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings were on the verge of making the Super Bowl in 2009, but then it all went downhill from there.

Now, the Vikings are in talks with quarterback Donovan McNabb who would like to change things around. With that being said, if McNabb is signed, he would need as many targets as possible.

Sidney Rice had an amazing season in 2009 with 1,312 yards and 8 touchdowns. Last year, Rice was sidelined after six games with a season-ending injury.

If the Vikings want to get right back on track, re-signing Rice would be a good idea.

Update: Sidney Rice signed a 5-year $41 million deal with the Seahawks

2. Olin Kreutz

8 of 9

2010 team: Chicago Bears

Olin Kreutz is a guy who is vastly under-appreciated in the league. The center has been a Chicago Bear for 14 years and is looking to retire one as well.

Kreutz has only missed 17 games in his career while playing in 191 of them. In fact, he has stayed healthy and played 128 consecutive games since 2003.

He is a player that Chicago fans have grown to love and become familiar with, and I think he will remain one until he retires.

1. Charles Johnson

9 of 9

2010 team: Carolina Panthers

This one is surely a done-deal.

After stepping in for Julius Peppers in his contract year, Johnson exploded onto the scene. In 2010, Johnson had 62 tackles and 11.5 sacks. He gave life to the struggling Carolina Panthers squad, and will look to continue to do so.

Update: Johnson was re-signed by the Carolina Panthers to a six-year, $72 million deal.
