Kansas City Chiefs: 6 Unknowns Who Could Be Stars by 2013
Each season, an unknown player comes from virtually out of nowhere to be the next unheralded star for his respective team.
The Kansas City Chiefs have seen this happen many times of the years, including the likes of undrafted players such as RB Priest Holmes and G Brian Waters.
The current Chiefs roster appears to be have a few guys that could be stars who most people haven't heard about.
Here are six of these unknowns that could be future stars for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Verran Tucker
1 of 6Tucker, like teammates Jovan Belcher and Wallace Gilberry on this list, also went undrafted.
As a rookie last season, he hauled in six passes for 114 yards in limited playing time.
He is easily the biggest long-shot of these players to become a star, considering that he didn't have an overly impressive college career while at Cal.
However, he showed last season that he can make the spectacular catch from time to time and he also has a head coach in Todd Haley who has been known to make star receivers out of many wideouts that he has coached over the years.
Allen Bailey
2 of 6Bailey is easily one of the rawest players in the Chiefs 2011 draft class.
However, he is also extremely athletic and has the ability to make plays that other guys simple can't make.
He will likely play a lot of defensive end for Kansas City, considering that that was his main position in college and the Chiefs could use some help there right now.
If he can improve his technique some when he comes to the NFL, look out for Mr. Bailey.
Shane Bannon
3 of 6Bannon was hardly on anyone's radar until just a few weeks before the '11 NFL draft.
Picked in the seventh round, some NFL experts have already said that he might turn out to be one of the biggest steals in the entire draft.
He should be able to step in and start right away at fullback, considering that KC only has the mediocre Mike Cox standing in his way.
It's been awhile since the Chiefs had a great fullback, and it would be nice if Bannon could become just that in the future.
Jovan Belcher
4 of 6The Chiefs signed Belcher before the '09 season after he went undrafted in the previous draft.
The former University of Maine star has been impressive from his ILB position in his two seasons with the team.
He started 15 games last year, while picking up 84 tackles and a sack for KC.
The fact that he is only 23-years-old means that he is still very raw and could easily become a star for this team in the near future under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.
Kendrick Lewis
5 of 6Lewis was taken by the Chiefs in the fifth-round of the '10 NFL draft to eventually replace departed safety Jarrad Page.
He ended up having a solid rookie campaign for KC, as he started 10 games and had seven pass deflections to go along with three interceptions.
He showed great instincts as the season went on and formed a good tandem at safety along with fellow rookie Eric Berry.
Lewis might never get the same attention that Berry will receive, but that doesn't mean that he can't become a star in his own right.
Wallace Gilberry
6 of 6Fourth-year defensive end Wallace Gilberry has already had some flashes of greatness in his young NFL career.
Last season, he racked up seven sacks in only two starts at DE, collecting more sacks than the rest of his defensive line mates by a wide margin.
He should get some increased playing time this season, especially on passing downs.
Gilberry has the potential to be a star for this team if he can improve his run defense and continue to pile up the sacks.
