WWE: A Tag Team Tournament That Will Revive the Fallen Division

WWE’s tag team division has been suffering for a long time now, along with the Divas division.

The last great tag team to have held the great titles were The Hart Dynasty (David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd) along with manager Natalya. They held the titles in a long, healthy, four month long reign. They were the first team to walk down the ramp with the new version of the Tag Team Championship, which was renamed from WWE Unified Tag Team Championship to WWE Tag Team Championship.

The current WWE Tag Team Champions are The New Nexus (David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty.) They won the title on May 23, 2011 and have yet to defend it.

Now for WWE to restore some value to their fallen Tag Team Division, they need to hold a tag team tournament featuring these teams:

Group A

1.)    The Great Khali & Jinder Mahal (Heel)

2.)    Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov (Face)

3.)    Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater (Heel)

4.)    The Usos (Face)

Group B

5.)    The New Nexus (David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty) (Heel)

6.)    Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase (Heel)

7.)    Big Show & Kane (Face)

8.)    Alex Riley & Daniel Bryan (Face)

Now the rules are simple. The teams will compete against each other in matches within their respective groups on Raw and SmackDown each week until SummerSlam. As they win, they will go on to the next stage.

The winner of each group will go head to head in the Tag Team Main Event at SummerSlam. Now this match would not just be a normal tag team match—it would be a Ladder Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship between the winners of group A and group B.

NOTE: If the Tag Team Champions are eliminated from the tournament, they will have to vacate the title.

I expect to see some real good matches over the weeks to come on Raw and SmackDown. Here is how I think it will go down. (I will not get into a detailed match by match card.)

Group A

Match One: Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel

Winners: Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel

Match Two: The Great Khali & Jinder Mahal vs. The Usos

Winners: Due to disqualification, The Usos. (I expect to see some problems with The Great Khali’s former manager to cost them the match.)

Group B

Match Three: The New Nexus vs. Big Show & Kane

Winners: Big Show & Kane (The New Nexus will be forced to vacate the WWE Tag Team Championship)

Match Four: Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase vs. Alex Riley & Daniel Bryan

Winners: Alex Riley & Daniel Bryan

Semi-Finals

Match Five: Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel vs. The Usos

Winners: Match ends in a double count out. Both teams are allowed to compete in the Ladder Match at SummerSlam, making it a Triple Threat Ladder Match for the vacant WWE Tag Team Championship.

Match Six: Big Show & Kane vs. Alex Riley & Daniel Bryan

Winners: Alex Riley & Daniel Bryan. (Mark Henry will come out and cost Big Show the match.)

I personally like the pairing up of Alex Riley and Daniel Bryan because they both have some good history with The Miz, and they can put on a good feud with the Miz.

Finals: Triple Threat Ladder Match for the Vacant WWE Tag Team Championship

Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel

Vs.

The Usos

Vs

Alex Riley & Daniel Bryan

I expect this match to attract the fans. These three teams will surely put on a good match if booked right.
