Three-Time Super Bowl Champion Godfrey Myles Dies at 42

The Associated Press is reporting that former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Godfrey Myles has died after suffering a massive stroke. He was 42 years old, and the report says Myles died on Friday.

Myles football career started at Florida University where he was a team captain and a first team All-SEC player. He was also a Sporting News honorable mention All-American at linebacker as a junior in 1989.

With the 62nd pick in the 1991 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys took Myles, and he became one of the best special team’s players in the league. Myles also played linebacker and recorded 135 career tackles, two fumbles recovered and two interceptions over his career.

During the six years that Myles played with the Cowboys, the team won three Super Bowls, including Super Bowl XXX when Myles blew out his ACL.

When Myles came back to the Cowboys in 1996, he played much less and never started again for Dallas. After signing with the Denver Broncos during the 1997 offseason, Myles was cut before the season started and never played again in the NFL.

Myles was catapulted back into the spotlight after he was charged with mortgage fraud just a few months ago. It never felt like his career was fulfilled, and that was always one of the saddest parts of Myles story.

This death leaves a sad void in the championship history of the Dallas Cowboys, and the best has to be sent to Myles family, friends and fans across the world.
