NFL Free-Agency Speculation: 7 Quarterbacks Who Will Start for New Teams in 2011
Every year, quarterbacks around the league change teams and became a hero or a villain for their respective new teams.
Last season, the league saw many changes at the starting QB position to begin the season, including former Brown Derek Anderson starting for the Cardinals and former Panther Jake Delhomme taking over for the Browns.
The current 2011 free-agency class is loaded with QBs, and it appears that some of them will be starting with new teams this season.
Here are my predictions for seven signal-callers that will start for different teams throughout the year in '11.
Matt Hasselbeck
1 of 7
2010 Stats: 14 G, 3,001 Passing YDs, 12 TD, 17 INT
Seahawks veteran Matt Hasselbeck appears to be on his way out the door of Seattle, after a 10-year run with the team.
I look for his new team to be one that needs a veteran QB presence to come in and start right away.
2011 Predicted Team: Miami Dolphins
Donovan McNabb
2 of 7
2010 Stats: 13 G, 3,377 Passing YDs, 14 TD, 15 INT
Many, including myself, expect the Redskins to cut ties with McNabb this offseason, after just one season in the nation's capital.
Since he still feels he can be a legitimate starting QB in the NFL, he will likely only go where he can come in and start right away.
Minnesota is a likely place for this, considering the fact that rookie Christian Ponder might need more time to be groomed into the team's QB of the future.
2011 Team Prediction: Minnesota Vikings
Carson Palmer
3 of 7
2010 Stats: 16 G, 3,970 Passing YDs, 26 TD, 20 INT
The Bengals appear to have their heir apparent to Palmer with rookie Andy Dalton.
I see the Panthers making a strong push for him, since the cupboard will be bare behind rookie Cam Newton.
If he ends up in Carolina, Palmer would have a solid chance to come in and start if Newton begins to falter at anytime during the season.
2011 Predicted Team: Carolina Panthers
Rex Grossman
4 of 7
2010 Stats: 4 G, 884 Passing YDs, 7 TD, 4 INT
The 30-year-old Grossman has underachieved ever since he began his NFL career in 2003.
Last season, he struggled in spot-start duty for the Redskins.
With the Seahawks likely losing Matt Hasselbeck this offseason, there is a great chance that they will be desperate for a new starting QB this season.
2011 Predicted Team: Seattle Seahawks
Kyle Orton
5 of 7
2010 Stats: 13 G, 2,653 Passing YDs, 20 TD, 9 INT
With second-year QB Tim Tebow likely taking over as the starting QB of the future for the Broncos, Orton's time in Denver is running out.
With the Cardinals' recent struggles at QB, Orton is a good fit in Arizona for this season and beyond.
2011 Predicted Team: Arizona Cardinals
Vince Young
6 of 7
2010 Stats: 9 G, 1,255 Passing YDs, 10 TD, 3 INT
Young is likely out of Tennessee after his on and off-the-field struggles with the Titans over the past five seasons.
The Redskins have a recent history giving big contracts to disgruntled players, such as defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, and with John Beck slated as their '11 starting QB, I look for them to sign Young after he is released by the Titans.
2011 Predicted Team: Washington Redskins
Matt Moore
7 of 7
2010 Stats: 6 G, 857 Passing YDs, 5 TD, 10 INT
Moore started five games for the Panthers last season, before giving way to rookie Jimmy Clausen in the second half of the campaign.
I could see the Titans signing him to compete with rookie Jake Locker for the starting QB position, and if Locker becomes the starter and begins to falter, Moore might be a better option than free-agent QB Kerry Collins, assuming Tennessee re-signs him this offseason.
2011 Predicted Team: Tennessee Titans
