WWE SmackDown Review: June 10, 2011

Daniel MasseyJun 11, 2011

Hello Folks! Welcome to the best SmackDown review on the Internet. This week, Christian, Orton and Sheamus were once again the centre of attention, and matches for Capitol Punishment were confirmed. So without further ado, letโ€™s get on with this weekโ€™s analysis!

Christian started off the show, arriving to a mix of boos and cheers from the surprisingly vocal crowd. I say surprisingly vocal, Iโ€™m going to assume nothing was added in post-production and if I take this as gospel then this means they were already ten times louder than the crowd on Monday, ten seconds into the show. Mind you, some say to assume makes an ass out of you and me.

He stood in the ring and cut a promo where he basically disowned his peeps. He told the crowd that if they cheered him on the way out then they understood why he attacked Orton. He also remarked on how hypocritical the WWE Universe is and how quickly they can change their minds.

By the end, he was getting solid boos from the sold out arena, and just in case he wasnโ€™t, he invited Cole in the ring for a chat. Nowadays, aligning yourself with this poor manโ€™s J.R is the perfect way to gain some heat.

Christian asked Cole to ask the crowd if they think he should be World Heavyweight Champion, at which point, the arena resonated with booing.

He seemed most annoyed that his fate had been in the hands of the crowd for a few weeks thanks to Teddy Long. Iโ€™d be more annoyed at Teddy if he couldnโ€™t pronounce my name right. Christian needs to be annoyed at things that matter, like that.

There was a six-man tag match following this segment. The Usos and Ezekiel Jackson took on The Corre. Big Zeke showed some impressive power early on, and the Usos maintained the advantage when tagged in, but the match soon turned to The Correโ€™s favour. A highlight for me was a neck-breaker by Heath Slater, it was brilliant.

Wade Barrett began to leave when Big Zeke turned the tables once again, resulting in Gabriel tapping to the torture rack as Heath tried to stop Wade form abandoning the team.

It was a decent match and it was good to see the Usos in action.

Sheamus vented his frustrations at the General Manager, who appeased him by giving him Orotn in a No DQ match in the main event.

The Corre broke up! My God, will the IWC be happy or what? Yes, Slater and Gabriel decided they had finally had enough of Wade and quit the group! As long as they donโ€™t split up as a tag-team then I am not bothered.

Trent Barreta was waiting patiently in the ring for his opponent, Jinder Mahal, when we returned from commercial. This was a really good match to watch, despite it having an obvious outcome. Trent Baretta nearly hit the roof from a back body drop he took. He then executed a perfect enzigiri that gave him the advantage for a short while.

The Great Khali distracted the high-flying Superstar, allowing Jinder to pick up the win. Trent was subjected to the Vice grip following the match. I seriously see Jinder Mahal becoming a clear contender for the World Heavyweight Championship by the Royal Rumble.

AJ completely ripped Tamina and her sidekick in an interview backstage where she remarked; โ€œLayCool called, they want their gimmick back.โ€ Pretty good I must say.

AJ has the most annoying theme music ever. Iโ€™d rather she came out to Crazy Frog, or Rebecca Black. She performed relatively well, with one of her knees to Tamina, causing the crowd to collectively gasp. She won when she rolled up Tamina, who was about to put AJ away.

Randy came out to call Christian out so they could settle their differences face to face. Christian appeared on screen and suggested Randy asked the audience what they wanted Christian to do. Holla, Holla, Holla.

Christian then managed to bargain for a match at Capitol Punishment for the World Heavyweight Championship, proving that if you moan and whine for long enough, you will get what you want.

Ted and Cody were backstage where they acknowledged their time in Legacy and what followed, with Ted losing focusโ€”it seems they are on the same page. Could this be the formation of a tag team? Ted called Cody nuts.

Ted faced Sin Cara in a quick match, as Cody caused a disqualification. I donโ€™t mind Sin Cara and I think what he does is extremely impressive, but I think it is the same thing every week. Like I say, I couldnโ€™t do it in a million years, but he uses the same repertoire week in week out and Iโ€™m afraid I will become bored of it.

Daniel Bryan saved the Mexican sensation by storming the ring. Teddy Long interfered and made it a tag team match as he doesnโ€™t like unruly behaviour on his tightly run ship. It was a fairly good tag match which featured a second impressive enzigiriโ€”this time by Sin Cara.

Daniel Bryan executed a good throw, and when caught by DiBiase after flying from the top rope, he reversed the situation into the LeBell lock and the faces picked up the victory.

Johnny Curtis had another segment. It was similar to his other one in which he literally had a chip on his shoulder because heโ€™s barely been seen once he won NXT. It makes me wonder what this is building up to.

Matt Striker interviewed Randy Orton who explained that a No DQ match would be like therapy for him.

One thing I did notice as the main event began was that Orton was exactly the same colour as Sheamusโ€™ hair and Sheamus was the same colour as Ortonโ€™s teeth. They contrasted so much I thought my telly was broken.

Action went to the outside a few times with the momentum switching back and forth. The action really started becoming quite brutal midway through the match as Sheamus used the stairs on Ortonโ€™s back. He then threw the bigger stairs into the ring and set them up to slam Orton into them.

This didnโ€™t quite go according to plan, and Sheamus received a disgusting Powerslam on the stairs heโ€™d set up. It looked like one of those bumps that would feel like when you accidentally scrape yourself on a sharp object and it makes you feel sick because of how bad the pain is.

He then went outside and found a Singapore Cane, hitting Randy once with it. He ended up getting caught up in the ropes, at which point Randy completely abused Sheamusโ€™ body with the cane, leaving welts all over him.

Christian interfered, hitting Orton over the head with the belt allowing Sheamus to pick up the victory.

This was an awesome match. Iโ€™d go as far as to say it was the best match on SmackDown this year. Iโ€™ve been talking about how the WWE has been pumping out PPV quality matches over the past couple of weeksโ€”this one takes first prize.

ย It easily could have fit in to Extreme Rules this year and I suggest you watch it if you havenโ€™t already. It was a captivating match, where the wrestlers told the story with their bodies perfectly, just like they used to.

On a side note, the World Heavyweight Championship has become somewhat of a Holy Grail that Sheamus, Christian and Orton are obsessed with. Iโ€™m glad these three are main-eventing SmackDown.

So to conclude, I think this SmackDown had it all. Decent promos by Christian, Jinder Mahal looked impressive, the tag match was refreshing, The Corre broke up, and we were treated to an extremely lengthy Main Event, resulting in a lengthy, glowing review of this weekโ€™s SmackDown.

As always, donโ€™t hesitate to comment, leaving your thoughts on the showโ€™s proceedings. I always reply to all comments.
