Top 10 Reasons Why the Leafs Maybe Just Might Not Suck That Much This Year

Tyler HillOct 24, 2008

I don’t think that, in my "career" at Bleacher Report, I have ever written a “Top 10" list. I love to read them and comment, but if I’m correct, this will be my first time writing one. So, here we go!

The Top 10 reasons why the Maple Leafs maybe just might not suck that much this year.

10.  Game One, we beat the Red Wings

Kucherov Landing Spots

The Maple Leafs came out strong in the season opener and beat the Cup champs. If they play like they did in that game, the season looks bright.

9. Ryan Hollweg keeps getting suspended

In the words of Greg Caggiano, “Haha, he’s ur problem now.” No Greg, he will be suspended too often to cause problems on the ice.

8. No Mats Sundin

Calm down and let me explain. The Leafs slacked off when Mats was there; without him, they must give 115 percent every shift.

7. The Maple Leafs' BR readers have something to prove

As mentioned in Greg Caggiano’s article “Greg’s interview with Ryan Hollweg”, Hollweg reads BR and will pass on to teammates how we talk about the Leafs, thus they will want to prove us wrong.

6. Jiri Tlusty will have a breakout year

After a 16-point rookie campaign, I predict Tlusty will have a break out year, in which he will help the Leafs propel past several teams.

5. Depth on the Blue Line

The Maple Leafs have 10 guys fighting for six, possibly seven, available spots. Among them is fifth-overall pick Luke Schenn.

4. Solid Goaltending

Vesa Toskala...He’s amazing. I regret not taking him in my fantasy league.

3. Ron Wilson Coaching Style

Wilson’s hard-nosed coaching will whip the Leafs into shape by Christmas, at the latest.

2. Nik Kulemin

Possible Rookie of the Year candidate?  In seven games, he has three points, along with two shootout goals. That's impressive for a rookie.

And the No. 1 reason...

1. Luke Schenn

Do I have to explain? He’s Luke Schenn!

Well, there it is. It's funny how Ryan Hollweg was mentioned three times, but never in a positive way.
