Tom Brady: 5 Post-Career Job Possibilities for Golden Boy

Scott ReighardJun 2, 2011

Writing about Tom Brady is sort of like writing about the improbability of a young boy named Arthur who coolly pulled Excalibur from the stone. If you believe in that sort of fantasy stuff, or was it?

Tom Brady has had a pretty remarkable fairy tale of a career. It’s almost like the Golden Child. Pick 199 in the 2000 draft has become a poster boy for the NFL. Who'da thunk it?

Suddenly you have GMs who feel they are wiser than an Indian sage by drafting quarterbacks in the sixth round, looking for that next Tom Brady. Uh, hate to disappoint those ego-filled gamblers, but the likelihood of that happening is about every 20 years.

As Tom Brady turns 34 in August, it is time to think about the sunset years of his game and ponder his eventual retirement. I am not saying Tom’s hanging up the cleats this year or next. In fact, Tom said something about playing another 10 years, when the Patriots drafted Ryan Mallett in the third round of this year’s draft. Far be it for me to tell Tom what to do.

But there will be a point in time when Tom hangs it up, takes his Super Bowl rings and heads off into the sunset with the very beautiful Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen and however many kids they have at the time.

Here is my take on five possible post-career jobs Tom should consider.

5: Professional Golfer

I think that it’s an unwritten rule that every quarterback plays golf, and plays it well. Tom could always consider hitting the driving range and links to see if this life-long career is actually possible.

He has been known to flirt with a tournament here and there, even hosting his own tournament or teeing it up at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

If Tom dedicated himself to becoming a Pro-Bowl and current three-time Super Bowl quarterback winner, surely he could dedicate himself to golf and make a run at the tour, or at least the Champions Tour by age 50.

4: High School Football Coach

Quick question, who is more likely to become a coach, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

Tom Brady would make a great high school football coach. He could work with young men and mold them into being complete team players. A stark contrast to many athletes today.

He could preach the benefits of being a team, an all for one, one for all kind of deal. Besides, if anyone can understand the guy who isn’t the best athlete but just has incredible heart and determination, it is Tom Brady.

3: Model/actor

I would have been pretty stupid to not put a picture of Gisele in here.

Well, The Bachelor would not be a good career choice since he is married to a very beautiful woman. And since he married a supermodel, she could give him tips on how to stand, walk or pucker for the camera as a model.

On the other hand, he has the personality and demeanor to do some minor acting jobs. He appeared in HBO’s Entourage, but as himself. Easy enough but challenge yourself Tom, think Brando’s role of Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. Instead of “Stella-a-a,” he could say, “Gisel-l-le.”

Perhaps he could be the next Charlie on Two and a Half Men? Or maybe, he could host a TV game show. By the way, does anyone think it’s time for Alex Trebek to find another gig other than Jeopardy?

In all seriousness though, Tom is a camera magnet and would be very marketable. He has already showed a penchant for posing for the camera. This would be a natural transition for him.

2: Brazilian Tour Guide

I don't think the young lady is ordering from the bar.

There is probably some guy named Joey in Jersey saying, "What are you some funny guy?" A shout out to my Jersey boys, hope you don't end up in jail this weekend.

Sometimes you just have to throw a curve ball every now and then. Let’s just say I try to keep the reader engaged or completely upset them with this little technique of mine.

I think Tom Brady would make a great Brazilian tour guide. Seriously, tourism would skyrocket for the Brazilian economy.

Can you imagine Tom Brady shuffling along the beach with brochures and throwing down information about Arcos Da Lapa and how it is one of the few remaining aqueducts from the colonial era? Or, hiking with Tom up Morro da Urca as he describes the wonderful views from 600 feet up?

Tom always seems to be a down-home guy and this would enable him to get more in touch with the culture and life of his wife’s home country. He could have his kids pass out brochures on the streets. How cute would that be: “Obter suas excursões de primeira classe, narrado por Tom Brady.”

Which means, "Get your first class tours narrated by Tom Brady.”

Just a thought.

Good-looking, articulate, smart and respected, that pretty much is the desired resume for every network television executive looking for someone to put in front of a camera.

Tom would be so popular the network would post his wardrobe line and hair care products after each game.

Tom is obviously very knowledgeable about football and would lend tremendous insight. I would think he could be another Troy Aikman-type in the booth.

A lot of former quarterbacks wind up holding a mike and becoming color analysts for networks. Frankly, some should be replaced. Tom Brady would be perfect for this No. 1 post-career job.
