Terrelle Pryor: 5 Teams That Might Be Interested in the Supplemental Draft
With the news that Jim Tressel has resigned as the head coach of Ohio State, the fate of Terrelle Pryor and the other players who are suspended from Ohio State but did not declare for the draft becomes much more iffy.
Pryor's initial intention was to stay at Ohio State with Tressel and ride out his suspension, but now that Tressel is out of the picture and the Buckeyes will have to rebuild with a new coach, Pryor will likely find the supplemental draft in July appealing.
Pryor has been consistently impressive during his three years at Ohio State. He has thrown 56 touchdowns, over 6,000 yards and has a completion percentage of 60.9.
Assuming the supplemental draft takes place despite the lockout, here are five team that will definitely be interested in nabbing Pryor at what will be a good price.
5. Seattle Seahawks
1 of 5
The Seattle Seahawks currently only have Charlie Whitehurst signed to their roster as a quarterback. They have stated on numerous occasions that their main intention is to resign veteran Matt Hasselbeck, which is believe is very true.
If Hasselbeck decides to go somewhere else or retires, (both unlikely) the Seahawks will definitely want a more reputed quarterback on their roster than Whitehurst.
I don't think it is likely that Pryor ends up in Seattle, yet they definitely have an interest in the Ohio State Buckeye.
4. Miami Dolphins
2 of 5
The Miami Dolphins are in dismal shape quarterback wise. Their roster currently consists of Chad Henne, who has been an injury-prone and disappointing pro, and Tom Brandstater, who's pro experience consists of two years on practice squads.
Chad Pennington and Tyler Thigpen are both free agents, yet Pennington is aging and fighting off persistent injuries while Thigpen has showed he is uncontrollable as a passer.
Pryor would fit in well into Miami's wildcat system and could finally give the talented group of young receivers on Miami's roster an opportunity to shine.
If Miami does not acquire Pryor, Vince Young has a very good possibility of heading there.
3. San Francisco 49ers
3 of 5
The 49ers drafted Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the second round of this year's draft. Kaepernick was very impressive throughout college and is a fantastic runner for a QB.
The 49ers are no stranger to drafting a QB who played well in college (see: Alex Smith), so their faith in Kaepernick may be low, not to mention the fast that he played in the relatively weak WAC.
The only QB signed to the 49ers roster currently besides Kaepernick is veteran David Carr, so they clearly do not have a man who they are very confident in San Francisco.
I don't expect them to bid very high, but I do expect the 49ers to put in an offer for Pryor.
2. Oakland Raiders
4 of 5
The Oakland Raiders currently have Kyle Boller and Jason Campbell signed as their quarterbacks. Campbell has been a better QB than most people would guess: he has a consistent passer rating in the 80s and a completion percentage around 60 percent.
He doesn't put up the big numbers that teams need from a quarterback, though; he only threw 13 touchdowns this season and less than 2,400 yards.
The Raiders will definitely be interested in acquiring Pryor on their squad. He plays with a similar style to Campbell, yet Pryor has the ability to be more physical and bring more of a passing game to Oakland. I definitely expect Oakland to bid high for Pryor in the Supplemental Draft.
1. Washington Redskins
5 of 5
The Washington Redskins are in need of just about everything football, but more than anything, they need a quarterback.
Donovan McNabb's trip to the capital was a huge bust. He clashed with head coach Mike Shanahan and in one of the most shocking and unprofessional coaching calls from last season, McNabb was benched in favor of Rex Grossman for being "unable to perform."
McNabb will be traded and the only other quarterback on their roster is John Beck, who is not a starter.
The Redskins spent their draft building their defense, so they will certainly bid heavily for Pryor in the Supplemental Draft. It's worth it. They need him, and Pryor could thrive on this young squad in the midst of rebuilding.
