The 10 Most Dominant Madden Teams in Video Game History

Michael MillMay 24, 2011

If you are a fan of football and video games, then chances are you have played Madden at some point in your life.

Primarily, this would be because it's the only football game offered anymore.

First released in 1988, Madden quickly became the favorite football game offered to fans.

Over those 23 years, there have been many teams that have  dominated the competition.

Here are the top ten Madden teams in the history of the game.

10. 2006 Philadelphia Eagles

The 2005 Philadelphia Eagles were probably the best team that the organization has ever had.

When the 2006 version of Madden was released, they were one of the top rated teams on the game.

What made them unique was the versatility of Donovan McNabb.

People had just gotten used to scrambling quarterbacks thanks to Michael Vick. Now, they had Donovan McNabb.

More importantly, they had Terrell Owens to throw the ball to.

9. 2001 Tennessee Titans

In 2001, Madden implemented a feature that focused on precision passing.

For some reason, it seemed like Steve McNair was the only quarterback in the game that it worked for.

He would throw perfect passes, while everyone else was off target.

I blame it on Eddie George. He was the 2001 Madden cover boy, so the Titans had a distinct advantage in the game.

8. 2008 San Diego Chargers

This was before Phillip Rivers became a complete beast in Madden.

Still, the 2008 version of the San Diego Chargers was a team nearly impossible to stop.

The reason, was because of the threats Rivers had to throw to.

Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson, Chris Chambers and Malcolm Floyd presented one of the best dangerous receiving duos in the history of the game.

Snap the ball.

Run to the right with Daunte Culpepper.

Throw a 50 yard bomb to Randy Moss.

Touchdown.

Repeat process.

Yes, this worked every single time.

6. 1994 Buffalo Bills

If the game would have allowed you to build a brick wall in the middle of the field, even it wouldn't have stopped Thurman Thomas in the 1994 edition of Madden.

If you ever decided to throw the ball, the Jim Kelly to Andre Reed combination was just another thing to add to the beating.

On the defensive side of the ball the Bills had Bruce Smith.

Smith was such a monster he generated the entire pass rush alone.

5. 1994 Dallas Cowboys

The 1994 Dallas Cowboy team was absolutely unstoppable thanks to one person.

Emmitt Smith wasn't known for being the fastest running back in the NFL, but in Madden 1994 he was the fastest guy on the field.

Add that to his ridiculous power, and the Cowboys became untouchable.

That's not even considering the fact that this team also had Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.

4. 2004 Atlanta Falcons

The Mike Vick experience was full blast in 2004.

Vick covered the video game, and as usual the player on the cover is unbelievably good come game time.

With his speed and throwing power, the Falcons were nearly unbeatable.

The fact that Peerless Price was blazing down sidelines helped the fact as well.

3. 2003 St. Louis Rams

I'm sensing a little bit of a trend here.

Having the cover athlete often results in having the most dominating team in the game.

Marshall Faulk was on the cover of Madden 2003, and the St. Louis Rams were amazing.

The team still had the majority of the players from The Greatest Show on Turf.

The offense consisted of Marshall Faulk, Mark Bulger, Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. If you wanted, Kurt Warner could still start for the team.

Just thinking about it is a little scary.

2. 2008 New England Patriots

The actual 2007 New England Patriots finished the season with a record of 18-1.

If you played a season in the game, you would have likely joined the 1972 Dolphins with an undefeated record.

As great as the team was in real life, they were even better in the game.

The combination of Tom Brady to Randy Moss was unbeatable.

The best part was that this team had an amazing defense also.

Not only would you crush opponents on offense, but you had the opportunity to shut them out as well.

1. 2011 Philadelphia Eagles

As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I refuse to play Madden 2011 any longer.

Every time I jump into a lobby to play a game, my opponent picks the Philadelphia Eagles.

Every person who plays Madden knows that speed is the most important attribute in the game.

Mike Vick, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy.

Can it really get any faster than that?
