John Beck, Rex Grossman & the Worst QB Situations in the NFL Today

Andrew KulhaMay 24, 2011

For every NFL team with a franchise quarterback, there is one that has a franchise situation.

Quarterback is arguably the most important position on the field, and if your team doesn’t have one it can trust, chances are that things can go sour real fast.

There are a few teams that have some major issues going into the 2011 NFL season.

Let’s check out John Beck, Rex Grossman and the worst QB situations in the NFL.

5. Detroit Lions

The Lions are probably in the best situation out of all the teams with a quarterback situation, but the fact remains that they are still very much so in a situation.

Matthew Stafford is still a relative unknown, and if he gets hurt one more time, you can all but pull the plug on his career.

When he has played, he has displayed a good arm, but there are concerns about his accuracy and decision-making.

To be fair, he doesn’t have much experience under center, but that’s also a criticism of his health status.

If he doesn’t pan out, the Lions franchise will go from up-and-coming to a very big disappointment.

4. Minnesota Vikings

Many people, including myself, have ragged on the Minnesota Vikings for taking Christian Ponder with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

The general thought is that it’s not that he is a bad pick, but more so that he could have been had in the second round and is way overvalued at No. 12.

To really judge one way or the other, though, is foolish at this point, because the truth is that we have no idea how Ponder will play.

That is the scary part for the Vikings though. They have no idea if Ponder is going to be a franchise quarterback or not, and there is no way that they are bringing back Brett Favre.

Tarvaris Jackson has almost played his way out of the backup role.

Just a whole lot of uncertainty at the QB position in Minnesota.

3. Arizona Cardinals

Right now the quarterback situation for the Cardinals is not very funny whatsoever.

Their defense really got a shot in the arm with the drafting of Patrick Peterson, and the offense still has some firepower, but right now there is nobody worth mentioning to make it run.

There have been suggestions that the Cardinals will take a shot at Kevin Kolb once the lockout is over, but speculation at this point means nothing.

Jake Locker is going to be a good quarterback in the NFL, but please understand that right now should not be the time.

Tennessee is in no position to be trotting out a young quarterback with minimal pieces around him.

Sure, Chris Johnson is going to be valuable as a runner, but this team needs to take its time with Locker and let him grow on the bench.

That leaves the Titans with...Kerry Collins...I think...

Rex Grossman versus John Beck for the starting position on your NFL football team?!

Honestly, can it get any better?!

No, because that was sarcasm.

Honestly, can it get any worse?

This is kind of like not having a prom date and having to choose between your older sister or your younger sister. Either way you choose, you will be taking your sister to prom.

It sucks...
