2011 NFL Trade Speculation: 15 Horrible Offseason Moves to Brace for
I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of this whole lockout ordeal. Luckily for us, speculation does not require a collective bargaining agreement and so we will continue to do so until the two sides can reach an agreement.
There are many big names that have the potential to move once free agency and trades begin, but just because they are big names does not necessarily mean they will produce big results.
Quarterback in particular is a position that is in high-demand in the NFL and because of that, many passers require a hefty price.
Here is a look at 15 moves that could be disastrous if they occur through free agency or trade once the lockout ends.
1. Kevin Kolb to the Cardinals
1 of 15
The Cardinals decided not to draft a quarterback in the draft and that is because they are planning to go after one through trade or free agency.
All indications are that Kolb will be the guy, and while I think he would be better than any of the Cards current signal-callers, I don't think he will be worth the price.
The Eagles will likely command two second-round picks or a first-round pick and another pick for Kolb's services and I'm not convinced he is worth that.
2. Vince Young to Whoever Wants Him
2 of 15
Vince Young has a winning record as an NFL quarterback, so why wouldn't a team want him as their passer?
Probably because his winning percentage has more to do with Chris Johnson's ability to run the football and the Titans ability to play defense then it has to do with Young's ability to throw the football.
Young will not be worth the trouble for whichever NFL franchise that decides to invest in the Tennessee quarterback.
3. Carson Palmer to the Seahawks
3 of 15
4. Randy Moss to the Jets
4 of 15
Do you remember how Randy Moss did last season in Tennessee? Me neither.
That's probably because Moss had more games played (eight) than passes caught (six) for the Titans last season.
That isn't exactly the type of production people have come to expect from the former star receiver, but the fact that he played for three different teams last season should be a good indication that he is on his last leg.
5. Chad Ochocinco to the Falcons
5 of 15
The Falcons appear to be set at receiver and while I have more faith in Ochocinco than most people, I don't see him as a good fit in Atlanta.
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution thinks Ochocinco would be a good fit for the Falcons because a team can never have too many options.
That may be true, but even though I think No. 85 gets a worse rap than he deserves, he still has the potential to be a distraction on a team that already has plenty of options on offense. Atlanta needs to pursue defensive players once the lockout ends.
6. Steve Smith to the Chargers
6 of 15
Philip Rivers is an accurate quarterback in the first place, but having big receivers like Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd who can go up and get the ball helps too.
Steve Smith does not fit that mold at just 5'9" tall and at 32 years of age he is nearing the end of his career.
Depending on the price associated with trading for him, the Chargers may not come out that badly by adding the veteran receiver, but I think he is well past his prime.
7. Tampa Bay Re-Signs Cadillac Williams
7 of 15
Here is a case of a team making a bad move by bringing back one of their own players. It's hard to believe, but Williams is now 29-years-old.
Not only is Williams getting up there in age, but his production was quite poor last season. Williams will be a backup to LeGarrette Blount for the Bucs, but after running for just 3.5 yards per carry last season, Tampa Bay shouldn't be expecting anything better this year.
8. Marc Bulger to Anyone
8 of 15
Bulger held the clipboard in Baltimore all of last season but his name is being tossed about this offseason as a potential target for multiple teams.
Bulger has had a solid career and he is a veteran presence, but he hasn't completed more than 59 percent of his passes since 2006 and he has more interceptions (34) than touchdowns (27) in the last four years.
9. Terence Newman Released by the Cowboys
9 of 15
The Cowboys are said to be in the mix for Nnamdi Asomugha once free agency begins and although he would clearly be an upgrade to the Dallas secondary, I think Big D would be making a mistake by letting Newman go.
Mike Jenkins was a much bigger issue than Newman last season for the Cowboys and I believe Dallas should keep the former K-State star around for at least another year.
10. Donovan McNabb to the Dolphins
10 of 15
Brandon Marshall needs someone that can throw him the football, but I don't believe that someone is Chad Henne or Donovan McNabb.
There has been a lot of speculation that Henne could get the axe in Miami this season and if that were to take place, McNabb could be a potential replacement.
The problem is that McNabb's best years are definitely behind him and his best fit was in Philly where he could throw plenty of deep balls.
11. Vernon Gholston to the Browns
11 of 15
There has been a lot of speculation that the Browns will go after former first-round selection Vernon Gholston once the lockout ends.
I don't see a reason that another team shouldn't give Gholston a second chance in the league, but I don't think it will work out for the Browns.
Cleveland wouldn't likely have to spend much to get him and while he would be a better fit in Cleveland's 4-3 defense, the fact remains that Gholston did not record a sack in three seasons for the Jets.
12. Tiki Barber to Any Team
12 of 15
Tiki Barber has not played in the league in five years and he is now 36 years old.
Enough said.
13. Seattle Seahawks Fail to Re-Sign Matt Hasselbeck
13 of 15
The Seahawks would be making a huge mistake to let Hasselbeck walk once the lockout ends, and while the chances he returns to the Emerald City are reportedly better now than originally thought, there is still a chance that he will move on to a different team.
Charlie Whitehurst led the Hawks to their huge Week 17 win over the Rams to win the division, but he will not lead this Seattle team to another division title in 2011.
14. Plaxico Burress Returns to the Giants
14 of 15
It's hard to say what kind of impact Burress will make after returning to the league following his two-year stint in prison, but if he learned anything from Michael Vick then he will look to move on from New York.
Burress would be better served to sign with a different team when the lockout ends and look to begin anew rather than returning to the Giants.
15. Brett Favre Doesn't Come Back
15 of 15
Don't do it Brett, you have to come back!
