WWE: Profiling Future Stars, Part 5: FCW Superstar Byron Saxton

Ryan FryeMay 18, 2011

Over the next month-and-a-half, I will be profiling Superstars from the WWE's Developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling. This will not include guys who have been on WWE TV for an extended period of time, with the exception of WWE NXT.

These FCW Superstars have stood out from the rest of the pack, and many will become future WWE Superstars. You may have heard of many, but may not be familiar with others.

If you watched the WWE's reincarnation of ECW during its last days, you heard Byron Saxton on commentary for a weekly basis. In my opinion, he wasn't too bad, although he portrayed the role of a face, and he is much better fit to be a heel.

Saxton (real name Bryan Kelly) grew up in Burke, Va., and attended the University of Florida. He would work on numerous local television networks, as both a producer and reporter. So before getting into wrestling, Saxton was no stranger to the cameras, and could talk well in front of them.

Kelly would sign a developmental contract with Florida Championship Wrestling, and debut under his real name on October 13, 2007. He lost to Hade Vansen and would appear (and lose for the most part) over the next couple of months.

He would debut as Black Pain's manager on June 3, 2008, cutting a promo for him. During this time, Kelly would accompany Pain to the ring, cut promos and every once in awhile team with him in a match.

On Sept. 30, Kelly would once again be repackaged. This time, under his current ring name, Byron Saxton. Along with Black Pain, Saxton would begin his "Saxton Conglomerate" stable, with a bunch a wrestlers you probably have never heard of.

Eventually, Saxton would break away from the group and team with Abraham Washington. These two would soon commentate FCW together, until Saxton turned on him as well.

This is when he'd be called up to call ECW, and eventually make it onto the show that replaced ECW, Season 4 of WWE NXT.

Although showing charisma and great mic work, Saxton was still raw in the ring, and as a result, was eliminated from NXT. But not to worry, Saxton is currently on Season 5 of the show; NXT Redemption.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is where we sit today.

So, where do I think Saxton will go?

Well, the WWE recently has discussed reviving managers, for young talent that struggles on the mic. With his experience in the role, I believe Saxton could do well with this.

Just imagine Saxton as John Morrison's manager/enforcer, both being in a heel role. I feel like something along those lines could help the talent Saxton is manager (in this case John Morrison) and Saxton himself.

Saxton could also go to commentary if need be, likely on Superstars, NXT or shows rumored to be starting for the WWE in the near future.

One thing I would do this time around, is have Saxton as a full-fledged heel. I believe, as I mentioned earlier, Saxton is much better as a heel.

Now, let's go to in-ring roles.

Saxton could be called up to the main roster, likely on Friday Night SmackDown and easily have a nice midcard reign, even holding the Intercontinental Championship.

Because, Saxton is Vince's muscular type, similar to Ezekiel Jackson, only worse in-ring and more charismatic on the microphone.

Lastly, Saxton could also be in a tag team, with a guy like Abraham Washington. Washington and Saxton have similar loud mouth heel gimmicks.

Enough of me, what do you think the multi-talented and very versatile Saxton? What role should he play on WWE TV?

Next up will be IWC golden boy, and former Ring of Honor star, Seth Rollins (Tyler Black in ROH).

Note: Although I've been promoting this new website recently, I have decided that I will not be leaving Bleacher Report for awhile. It's going to take time for us to build up, and I look forward to continuing in the wrestling section in the future.
