NFL Trade Speculation: 4 New Orleans Saints Who Could Get Dealt

Will OsgoodMay 11, 2011

Trades happen somewhat infrequently in the NFL. Yet, given the current landscape of the NFL, they could become much more common this offseason.

Of course, one name that is going to be common among all NFL trade speculation is Reggie Bush. Someone is going to want him, and the Saints would likely deal him for the right price, in order to avoid spending too much cash on one position.

But there are a few other Saints who could be dealt this summer.

WR Devery Henderson

In the Saints' offense, Henderson's role is basically doubled by Robert Meachem. Meachem is younger with still more upside, better hands and better size.

Also, Henderson's deal is going to cost the Saints a bit more over the next two seasons than Meachem's. Henderson likely wouldn't command much more than a sixth or seventh-round draft pick back, but if the Saints could get that and cap relief, they might just consider it.

Any team who needs a top-off-the-defense receiver would seem likely to consider Henderson for a sixth or seventh-rounder.

RT Jon Stinchcomb

Stinchcomb came under fire for his play a season ago, but there are many teams who would consider Stinchcomb an upgrade at the right tackle spot.

The Saints would love to rid themselves of his expensive deal. If they could turn his deal into a sixth or seventh-rounder, again they'd have to take it.

CB Patrick Robinson

With the drafting of Johnny Patrick, it is possible the Saints could determine their first-round pick in 2010 is expendable. Robinson did not improve in the manner the Saints expected, and they could decide to move on.

I don't really believe this, but you never know.

With Robinson being one year removed from being the final pick of the first round, he would likely command a third-round selection in any trade.

Yes, of course, this article would be rather irrelevant if I failed to mention the possibility of Reggie leaving New Orleans.

Reggie would still likely command fairly high value in a trade—perhaps a fourth-round pick. There are many teams who would love to have a hybrid player such as Bush to employ in a variety of personnel packages and formations.

Of course, the Saints love having him for that role, but if Bush chooses to not accept a pay cut, the Saints may have no choice than to trade the man who was co-Savior in 2006 upon the Saints' return to New Orleans.

The truth is that even with the uncertain landscape of the NFL, I do not believe a ton of trades will take place. These are simply possible targets.

I suppose I am missing some, but I wouldn't want anyone else traded from the Saints roster.

And I would be surprised if Mickey Loomis does either.
