WWE Extreme Rules Results: 5 New Rivalries We Could See Going Forward

Joe M.May 1, 2011

We're hot off the heels of WWE Extreme Rules and the WWE Draft, and with that we're seeing months-long feuds come to an end.

So what's next for guys like Cody Rhodes, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio, and Christian, all of whom wrapped up their current rivalries at Extreme Rules?  On top of them, there are all the Superstars and Divas who were drafted on Monday.

In this slideshow, we'll take a look at five possible feuds that can happen going forward.

As always, read through, and leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Sin Cara vs. Daniel Bryan

1 of 5

Sin Cara and Daniel Bryan are two of the most talented wrestlers in the world, and during the WWE draft, they both were moved to Smackdown.

Both Cara and Bryan are future main eventers, and seeing them engage in a mid-card feud would be a great look into the future of WWE.

Simply put, only good things can happen if you put these two guys in the ring together.

Sheamus vs. Christian

2 of 5

After years of being humbled by WWE and Vince McMahon, Christian is finally the World Heavyweight Champion.

Sheamus was moved to the blue brand in the 2011 WWE Draft and dropped the US Title to Kofi Kingston to free him up for another run in the main event scene.

Sheamus happens to be an extremely over heel, and anyone who has ever been to a WWE live event can attest to that.

Christian is, of course, an extremely over face and when you have that kind of passion behind two guys, having them feud is a good idea.

The fact that this would be for the World Heavyweight Championship is just a bonus.

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes

3 of 5

You can argue that we've already seen this, but it's just different now that Cody Rhodes is a legitimate main eventer, or at least upper mid-carder.

Rhodes is hot off the heels of a great feud with Rey Mysterio, and Orton is fresh out of an amazing rivalry with CM Punk, so now would be a great time to start up this rivalry.

This wouldn't be a rivalry that lasts months, but it would be able to keep fans hooked for a few weeks and span maybe two pay-per-views.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio

4 of 5

There is more to this than just the facts that they are both luchadors who spent good portions of their careers wrestling in Mexico.

The "more" is that there is already a backstory. When Del Rio debuted on Smackdown, one of his first targets of Rey Mysterio.

While WWE seemingly closed the book on the short-lived Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio feud, now that they are both on Raw and need opponents, we could see this book reopened.

CM Punk vs. John Cena

5 of 5

CM Punk is rumored to be unhappy with his role in WWE... but can you blame him?  While it would be somewhat idiotic for any wrestler in his prime to turn down a WWE contract because, well, WWE is the major leagues, one cannot blame Punk for being frustrated.

While he has certainly been given the spotlight in the past (his feud with Jeff Hardy in 2009 carried WWE for a few months), as of late he has always been coming out on the losing end of his matches and feuds.

Calling him a jobber is going a little bit overboard, as he is a main-event talent that is given legitimate TV time, you can't blame him for getting annoyed with WWE.

Putting him in a feud with John Cena for the WWE Championship is just what Punk needs right now.  Actually, having him feud with and defeat Cena is just what everyone needs right now.

IWC fans will applaud the fact that John Cena is no longer the WWE Champion, and Punk will be given the WWE Championship, something he more than deserves.

Like Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio, we may have seen this already, but it wasn't nearly as long as it could have been.
