Kansas City Chiefs: 5 Rookie Free Agents That Should Be Wearing Red and Gold
The 2011 version of the NFL Draft wrapped up on Saturday, and now it's time to start looking at the guys who didn't get drafted.
I am referring, of course, to the undrafted rookie free agents who will be looking for contracts from interested teams in the future.
In the past, there would have already been a plethora of undrafted rookies being scooped up by respective teams.
But due to the current NFL lockout, they will have to wait until the NFL lifts the lockout and gives teams the green light to bring in new players.
Anyway, here is a look at five players the Chiefs should target once the lockout is lifted again. Enjoy.
CB-Ryan Jones, Northwest Missouri State
1 of 5I had this guy on my mock draft for the Chiefs, as he would have been a great selection for KC.
The former Division II Northwest Missouri State star, Jones had 14 interceptions in his career as a Bearcat and has the toughness and athletic ability to produce at the next level.
Kansas City could instantly add more depth and improve the talent level in their defensive backfield by simply bringing in Jones.
WR-Jamorris Warren, UCM
2 of 5This guy had D-1 talent, but ended up taking his skills to Division II Central Missouri, where he was a D-2 first-team All-American WR in 2010.
He finished the year with 1,458 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns for the Mules.
Warren also had a great pro day in Columbia, Mo., where he was featured with '11 NFL Draft first-round picks Aldon Smith and Blaine Gabbert.
The Chiefs need more help at WR, and adding Warren could give them another potential playmaker for their talented, young offense.
OLB- Mark Herzlich, Boston College
3 of 5Herzlich, the former cancer patient, is still available and would be a great pickup for the Chiefs.
Like many of the other players on this list, he would provide solid depth at the OLB position and could be a force on special teams as well.
He has the makeup of a Scott Pioli player: great mental toughness, physicality and is a smart football player.
WR-Terrence Toliver, LSU
4 of 5The former LSU Tiger could pair with current Chiefs receivers Bowe and Baldwin to give the team one of their biggest WR corps in their history.
Although his receiving numbers weren't earth-shattering in college, he has the size (6'4") and speed (4.52 40 time in combine) to make in impact on KC's offense.
He would also add to the LSU/Chiefs pipeline that already includes the likes of WR Dwayne Bowe, C Rudy Niswanger and DEs Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson.
ILB-Alex Wujciak, Maryland
5 of 5Wujciak was arguably the best LB who wasn't taken in the draft over the weekend.
He has a great nose for the ball and is as tough as the come at the ILB position.
This is another area that KC needs depth in, as the cupboard is pretty bare after current starters Derrick Johnson and Jovan Belcher.
