NFL Draft 2011 Grades: Kansas City Chiefs Report Card, Rounds 4-7

Bill RobbinsApr 30, 2011

Coming into the final day of the 2011 NFL draft, the Chiefs had already filled many holes that they had on the team prior to the draft.

With the additions of WR Jonathan Baldwin, C Rodney Hudson and OLB Justin Houston, KC was able to get three new starters and fill the needs at these respective positions.

For the first pick of Saturday, Kansas City decided to use their fourth-round selection on CB Jalil Brown from Colorado.

Brown was an honorable mention Big 12 player last season and his speed and athleticism should give the Chiefs some valuable depth at the CB position.

Round 4 Grade: B

Round 5

In the fifth rounds, Kansas City nabbed former Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi and Oregon State LB Gabe Miller.

The Stanzi pick was arguably the best pick of the day for the Chiefs, as they needed a backup QB with the inconsistent Brodie Croyle manning the position the last two seasons.

He should be a more than adequate second string to starting QB Matt Cassel and has the size (6'4'', 230 lbs) and intelligence to succeed in the NFL.

Miller was also a good pick for depth at the linebacker position as he was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in college.

Round 5 Grade: B+

Round 6

In Round 6, the Chiefs grabbed massive DT Jerrell Powe from Mississippi in what looks like to be an excellent sleeper pick by GM Scott Pioli and his staff.

Powe is a big body at 6'2'' and 340 lbs, and since his more of a traditional defensive tackle for the 3-4 defense that KC runs, he has a great chance to come in and start at that position as early as this season for Kansas City.

Round 6 Grade: A

Round 7

Kansas City selected fullback Shane Bannon from Yale for their final selection of this year's NFL draft.

Bannon should at the very least compete for the starting fullback position against incumbents Tim Castille and Mike Cox and at the very least he will provide more depth at that position going forward.

Round Seven Grade: B-

Overall

After reviewing all the picks made by the Chiefs in this year's draft, they filled many specific needs of the team and did so by adding very productive players at different positions across the board.
