A's Honor Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson with Bobblehead; Lose to Rangers
The Oakland A's honored all-time stolen base champ and Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson on Saturday with a bobblehead depicting his record setting stolen base.
Unfortunately, they could not win the game in front of their greatest player in franchise history.
The bobblehead, which was sponsored by Kingsford Capital Management, and produced by Nensussen Deutsch & Associates is a likeness of Henderson standing with the base hoisted in his left hand after he had slid safely into third base for career steal number 939 against the New York Yankees on May 1, 1991.

The Athletics distributed 20,000 of the collectibles to attending fans for the day game against the Texas Rangers.
Henderson, on hand for his own promotional giveaway, surprised A's fans by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to A's center fielder Coco Crisp.
Unfortunately for A's fans in attendance, that is where the excitement ended as the A's were blown out 11-2.
Despite home runs by Kurt Suzuki and Josh Willingham, the A's were unable to get any offense going against Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis.
Lewis pitched eight solid innings for the Rangers, allowing only the two home runs to cross the plate. He gave up six hits, walked one and struck out six while earning his second win of the season.
For the A's, Brett Anderson experienced his worst outing of the season, allowing three home runs in his five innings of work. Anderson allowed nine hits, seven runs, walked four batters, hit a batter and only struck out three before his day ended.
Overall, the Rangers scored 11 runs to blow out the A's in front of the packed Coliseum crowd.
The Rangers received home runs from Michael Young, Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli.
The A's play another day game against the Rangers on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Gio Gonzalez will pitch for Oakland against Matt Harrison for Texas.
Notes
- The Athletics group-ticket sales is running an interesting promotion for the final game of the series against the Rangers on May 2 at 12:35 p.m.; the first game of the series starting Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. (May 3) against the Cleveland Indians; and Monday, May 16 against the Los Angeles Angels at 7:05 p.m.
For group ticket purchases of 25 seats or more, you can submit a bid to "name your own price" for seats around the Coliseum.
According to the A's site, after you submit your bid you will be contacted by a representative to complete your order; not all offers will be accepted. So bid, but bid reasonably.
Check out the promotion (click here). - Mark Ellis sat out Saturday's game due to illness, not injury. Coco Crisp sat out his third straight game with a sore quad muscle.
- Andrew Bailey pitched a bullpen session on Friday, and could face live hitters some time next week. He is on pace to rejoin the A's in May.
