2011 NFL Draft Results: 5 Day 3 Picks Most Likely to Become NFL Studs
We know teams cannot go into Day 3 of the NFL draft expecting to find the next "Anomaly", a.k.a Tom Brady, but they will certainly continue to try.
There will not be a ton of quarterbacks off the board at this point in the draft, but there are a number of players coming off the board who could be stars in the NFL.
Running backs can always come from any round in the draft, wide receiver can make an impact from late rounds when given the opportunity and there is always the falling star situation.
Some players fall for reasons that do not make complete sense to outside viewer, and eventually one team cashes in by taking a chance.
Rounds 4-7 are home to all these things, and these five players have a great chance to be stars in the NFL.
1. Marcus Cannon, OT, New England Patriots
1 of 5
The New England Patriots continue to surprise with selections and Marcus Cannon, a consensus second-round pick prior to the knowledge of him diagnosed with lymphoma.
Well, if all works out for the best and he stays healthy, the New England Patriots have themselves a massive star.
Factor in first-round pick Nate Solder to the Patriots current lineman, and they will easily have the most massive line in the league with Cannon playing guard.
He's a great athlete, really good kid and fell simply for medical concerns.
His potential in the NFL, especially in the New England, is through the roof if he is able to stay on the field.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Atlanta Falcons
2 of 5
We all know 'Quiz Rodgers as the Heisman candidate running back who burst onto the scene after upsetting USC a few years back.
He may be small, but he is a force and can do things with his feet that normal people do not even dream of.
After adding Julio Jones in the first round with a five pick investment, it's important for them to find more talent in this draft.
The Falcons didn't run the football as well as they wanted to last year, and Rodgers is a fantastic complement to Michael Turner.
This has the potential to be a huge steal.
Ahmad Black, S, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3 of 5
Ahmad Black is small, ran a terrible 40-time and plays a risky style of football.
Well, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers know one other thing about Black: He is always around the football.
Black's game-changing ability with the football in his hands, ball skills and energy will make him a fun player to watch.
He didn't test well and that is why he fell, but make no mistakes about it, he is a football player.
He's going to find a way onto the field for this team sooner than later.
Chris Carter, OLB, Pittsburgh Steelers
4 of 5
This a fantastic value pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers at a position they always seek players for.
Christopher Carter was projected to go as high as the third round and was all over the field in 2010.
He racked up double-digit sacks in WAC, was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and falls to a team that can make him a force sooner than most.
The Steelers always seem to a find the players they love to use, very similar to the Packers with receivers, Giants with defensive ends, and this is a pass rusher to a team that loves pass rushers.
It might not happen immediately, but Carter could be a major player in a few years.
Quinton Carter, SS, Denver Broncos
5 of 5
I love this pick for the Denver Broncos.
After adding Rahim Moore early in the second round, this is exact opposite style safety.
While Moore will drop deep into centerfield, Carter can creep up to the line.
He will excel in the NFL as a box safety and has the running mate to allow him to do so.
It may not happen immediately, but this a great set for this team going into the future at the safety position.
