Jon Baldwin to Kansas City Chiefs: 2011 NFL Draft Scouting Profile

Max RauschApr 28, 2011

At 6'5", 230 lbs, Pitt's Jonathan Baldwin is easily the biggest WR in this year's class; unfortunately, he has an attitude to match.

Baldwin has all the strength (led top-10 WRs in bench press performance at the combine), speed (4.49 40) and athleticism to be an elite NFL WR.  He compares favorably with No. 1 WR prospect AJ Green.

Despite playing with a series of subpar quarterbacks at Pitt, Baldwin was able to put up elite numbers (109 catches for 1,921 yards and 13 touchdowns) in his two seasons as a starter.

While Baldwin has the best physical tools in this year's draft, he has a reputation as a diva and is known to drop catchable balls in tight spots. He will need to improve his attitude, work ethic and concentration in order to succeed in the NFL.

Baldwin attended the same high school as Mike Ditka and Darrelle Revis.

Len Pasquarelli of the Sports Xchange noted (via NFL Draft Scout) that,
"Although wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin was timed at a fairly pedestrian 4.50 last week, and was inconsistent in his routes, a number of clubs, including New Orleans, are still intrigued by the former Pitt star as a possible steal in the second round."

Baldwin fills a position of need for the Chiefs. He can occupy the middle of the field and play possession WR to Dwayne Bowe's deep threat. With two weapons on the outside, Matt Cassel's life gets much easier next season. Assuming the Chiefs address their needs in the trenches sooner rather than later, this was a solid first-round pick.
