WWE SmackDown! Preview: The Aftermath of No Mercy Continues

Ron JohnsonOct 10, 2008

After a monumental No Mercy, the WWE begins to focus its attention on Cyber Sunday. As seen on RAW, we could be lookin at the return of one legend. But on SmackDown!, we could be looking at the completion of a master plan that was set back at Unforgiven. But they're not the only bit of anarchy that will take place tonight.

Here's a quick look at tonight's Friday Night SmackDown!

Gold Standard Stock Going Down?

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

For the last few weeks, the Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin has been hitting the short end of the stick. First came the loss to the newest enigma known as R-Truth on one of the last shows on The CW. Then came the shocker known as Glamarella on the opening night of MyNetworkTV. It's clear to say that Shelton's stock is dropping in a major way.

With Cyber Sunday approaching, it's clear that there is someone looking to take that extra weight off of his shoulders. Benjamin knows that, and so does his possible opponent, R-Truth. Now that's what's up!

Is It Cool To Be Champions?

Carlito and Primo enjoyed their first night as Tag Team Champions, but even they know that the WWE is full of takers. Former Champs Hawkins and Ryder will no doubt be looking to reclaim their gold, and it's clear that if they can get past their petty Internet rivalry with Cryme Tyme, The Dirt Sheet should add their names to the list.

Since there is no GM on SmackDown! at this time with the current one on the shelf, and Cyber Sunday approaching, who will step up to become #1 Contenders?

Speaking of #1 Contenders, Maryse has been a royal bitch lately. She has been hell bent on making Michelle's life a living hell. She wants the Divas Championship, that's clear. But after losing not once but twice to Michelle, Maryse did everything in her power to get back in the hunt. But Maryse isn't the only one eyeing the championship. With Victoria possibly looking at one more championship run, and multiple Divas stepping up to throw their names in the hat, it's time for Michelle McCool to start looking over his shoulder.

Is it Show's Time To Complete His Journey?

Big Show came up short in his quest to become ECW Champion back in July at Night of Champions. Since making SmackDown! his permanent home, Big Show has been more dangerous than ever. From The Great Khali to Vladimir Kozlov, no one has been safe...including after last Sunday, The Undertaker. Big Show fufilled his mission to destroy the spirit of the Deadman (or is it?) at No Mercy.

Now that the Power Couple has been decimated via Tombstone, it is up to Big Show to complete the task at hand: Claim the WWE Championship. In order to fulfill that mission, he must take out the one man he could never tear down: The King of Kings, Triple H. After barely edgeing Jeff Hardy at No Mercy, The Game now has to deal with a 7'2 Giant with a mean right hand.

There is no word on whether The Undertaker will be on SmackDown! tonight, but we do know that Vladimir Kozlov has set his eyes on both Hardy and Triple H. And considering that the slugfest between Kozlov and Show never took place, it's clear that no matter who walks out of SmackDown! WWE Champion, either Kozlov, Hardy or both will be waiting.
