The Future of Wrestling Arrives

Daris BrownOct 9, 2008

It’s almost been a decade since wrestling was hot. Today there are no invasions, no rebellious superstars, no Monday night war, and no reason to watch…well I won’t go that far. But the truth is wrestling has been stale. But before you go and throw your TVs out the window or start switching over to old Will and Grace re-runs, just know the future of wrestling is here.

For years now the WWE has been content on jamming the same old stars down our throat. Is anyone really surprised that Triple H is still world champ? Are the Big Show and ‘Taker feuding—again? Can I please see something new and exciting that will make me want to tune in to at least one of your three weekly shows!??

Wait? Who’s that guy in the middle of the ring? He looks kind of familiar. DiBiase? Hey I know him. The son of the Million Dollar Man, now that’s priceless. And that’s where it all began.

WWE has forgotten what brought them to the dance, creating new stars. But now there has been an explosion of new talent. Ted DiBiase Jr., Cody Rhodes, Primo Colon, Manu and these are just the third generation superstars. Throw in new superstars like Kofi Kingston, Santino Marella, and Evan Bourne and it’s like AHHHHH.

It’s like a sweet breath of fresh air. We have new storylines to get behind. New heroes to root on. And new villains to despise. And the WWE has done a great job of giving them instant credibility. They put the straps on these young guys right away, throw them in storylines with upper mid-carders and make us pay attention to them. The future of wrestling is here.

Now TNA, who led the charge with fresh new faces, is falling behind. The company that was built by indy stars, now belongs to the same old same from the WWE, but that’s another story.

TNA is sparking with its women’s division, how do you ask? A huge reason is fresh new faces. If they could do that with the men division they’d once again see a spark in business. But they are doing a great job of having their established stars bring up the younger guys in hopes that it’ll bring the new guys to their level. And it’s working.

It won’t be long before wrestling fans are once again proud to where their WWE and TNA t-shirts out in broad daylight. Once the WWE realizes that it’s not about stunts like giving away money. And TNA understands that it’s not about bringing in NFL players and throwing them in a match.

And when both companies know that it’s ALL about developing new stars, that’s when we’ll see wrestling back in the mainstream. That’s when we get this decade's Rock, Stone Cold, or Kurt Angle. And that’s when we know that the Future of Wrestling is here.
