2011 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Prospect, Oklahoma RB DeMarco Murray

The Eagles have held private workouts for a number of different running backs who will be entering this year's NFL draft.  One very intriguing player the Eagles hosted for a workout was Oklahoma's DeMarco Murray.

At this year's NFL combine, Murray was listed at 6'0" and 213 pounds.  He also turned in an impressive 4.41 40-yard dash time, fifth among those running backs competing in the event.

At Oklahoma, Murray was a four-year player who never rushed for under 700 yards in a single season.  As a sophomore and senior, Murray eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark.  In four seasons, he scored 50 rushing touchdowns and also added 13 more through the air.

As a runner, Murray is shifty and can hit his top speed very quickly.  He's the type of runner that has the ability to break a big play off every time he touches the ball, similar to the man he'd team up with in Philadelphia, LeSean McCoy.

Despite not being the biggest running back, Murray is quite strong for his size.  At the NFL combine, he put up 225 pounds a total of 21 times, the same amount top linebacker prospect Von Miller completed. 

Although Murray prefers to leave defenders in his dust, he has the ability to finish runs using his strength to his advantage.  He can deliver big blows to opposing defensive backs and keep on going.  His strength was also something he showed in college on short yardage and goal line situations, as he often was able to gain extra yardage on second and third efforts.

However, the Eagles may be enamored with Murray for a different reason.  At Oklahoma, Murray shined catching balls out of the backfield.  We all know that the Eagles offensive scheme uses running backs a lot as receivers, and Murray would easily be able to step into this kind of role.

From his sophomore through senior seasons, Murray had 31, 41 and 71 receptions, respectively.  As a senior, Murray caught at least two or more passes in 13 of his 14 games, and had 10 receptions twice.

Although the Eagles would like to have a running back who can come in and run the ball to give McCoy a break, Murray would be able to come in and run and catch the ball without skipping a beat.

A lot of projections have Murray going somewhere in the third round.  The 2011 running back class is pretty weak, so there's a chance Murray may slip a bit. 

I think he fits the Eagles offensive scheme very well and is a guy that could come in and have an immediate impact.
