NFL Trade Scenarios: 5 Teams That Could Go Deep in Playoffs with Carson Palmer
Quarterback is a hot commodity this offseason in the National Football League.
There are multiple teams that are a quarterback away from making a run in the playoffs, and even a possible run for the Super Bowl.
Carson Palmer is a guy that will likely be on the list for many of those teams whenever the current lockout comes to a close.
Palmer has made it clear that he will not return to Cincinnati next season. He even threatened to retire if owner Mike Brown does not allow the team to trade him.
Brown has stated Palmer will not be traded, and is known for holding true to his word.
If Brown changes his mind, there will be many teams that could benefit from the addition of Palmer.
Here are five teams that would make a deep playoff run with the Bengals' quarterback.
5. Tennessee Titans

With the awaiting departure of Vince Young, there is no question that the Titans will need a new quarterback next season. Some think the team will focus on a quarterback in the upcoming draft, but could they instead trade for a talent elsewhere in the league?
If the Titans would focus on a player like Palmer, they would still have their eighth overall draft pick to use on much needed help with the defense.
Tennessee already has one of the most talented running backs in the league in Chris Johnson. The addition of Palmer could open up the running game and improve the passing game, which struggled greatly in 2010.
The Titans may not have the talent to make a Super Bowl run with Palmer, but they could be back in the hunt for an AFC Wildcard berth.
4. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are coming off a 7-9 season and one of the most improbable victories in playoff history.
The defending NFC West Champions will need a quarterback next season.
The team currently has Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst at quarterback, but a seasoned veteran with an arm like Palmer could put this team in back-to-back playoff appearances.
The Seahawks didn't look look like the most talented team on paper, but they came together under head coach Pete Carroll, and had a great 2010 season.
In a weak NFC West division, the addition of Palmer could easily put the Seahawks right back in the playoffs.
3. San Francisco 49ers
3 of 5
The San Francisco 49ers are almost the exact opposite of the Seattle Seahawks. They look to be a very talented team on paper, but couldn't find a way to win under Mike Singletary.
Now, with Jim Harbaugh taking over as head coach, the 49ers are one small step away from being a legitimate playoff contender.
That step is the quarterback position.
Harbaugh appears to really like what Alex Smith brings to the team, and he could very well go with him at quarterback next year. However, Palmer would bring proven talent and leadership to the team.
The decision will be one of the first of many difficult ones in Harbaugh's NFL coaching career.
2. Arizona Cardinals
4 of 5
Nothing is funny to Derek Anderson. Do you think he will be laughing if Carson Palmer comes to town?
Cardinals' fans miss Kurt Warner, but Palmer may be a solid replacement. The two have very similar styles in play.
With Warner, the Cardinals lost the Super Bowl in 2008, then followed it with a playoff run in 2009. Without him, in 2010, the team slipped to 5-11.
This is still a very talented team, with a huge need at quarterback. The addition of Palmer would put the Cardinals right back in the playoff hunt in 2011.
1. Minnesota Vikings
5 of 5
The other teams on this list could be playoff contenders with the addition of Carson Palmer. The Minnesota Vikings could be Super Bowl contenders with Palmer.
The team has one of the better defenses in the NFL. It was actually the offense, who ranked 29th in scoring last year, that was the problem.
Palmer, Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice (if he returns).
Sounds like a pretty dominant offense to me.
The question is, does Leslie Frasier want to take a chance on another experienced, aging quarterback?
