Wrestlemania 27: Christian vs Alberto Del Rio, the Best Feud in the WWE
Fellow writer Ray Samuels posted last night an article titled “Wrestlemania XXVII: Why Christian Has to Be Added to the Main-Event”.
Samuels argues that after Christian beat Alberto del Rio in a cage match on last Friday Night SmackDown, the battle for the World Heavyweight Championship at Atlanta should become a triple threat.
Until a few weeks ago, I would have disagreed. However, now I like the idea.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Nobody would have imagined it when the year started, but right now Christian vs Alberto del Rio is the most exciting feud in the WWE.
Think about it. These are two very talented in-ring workers, also very good with the mic, which have spent the last month beating each other and looking good in the process.
This is not a one-sided feud like Del Rio’s short one with Kofi Kingston.
Alberto took out Christian six months ago and Captain Charisma retaliated as soon as he was cleared to wrestle. The Canadian star won the cage match and the Mexican luchador got revenge seconds later.
They don’t waste time just talking and talking. They exchange blows week after week.
Meanwhile, let’s take a look to the other feuds in the WWE:
John Cena vs The Miz
I really like the development of this storyline and The Rock’s involvement, but in terms of the feud only we still haven’t seen Cena get one hand on The Miz.
In a typical Cena-storyline build-up, The Miz is “winning” (not Charlie Sheen-winning) week after week, taking advantage of Captain Fruity Pebbles’ distractions to give him a beating.
We all know how this will end.
Triple H vs The Undertaker
Act 1: Recently buried-alive Deadman returns for the 534th time and gets interrupted by The Game. After five minutes of music, they play Gestures to challenge each other to a match. Why not Pictionary?
Act 2: SmackDown star appears on RAW and says “my rival is a legend, but I will win”. Four days later, RAW star appears on SmackDown and says “my rival is a legend, but I will win”.
Act 3: Both rivals take a break, so a Shawn Michaels’ “interview” is all we get to hype the match.
Randy Orton vs CM Punk
The WWE decided that The Nexus was no longer useful, so this feud has served to get four wrestlers punted in the skull by Orton, while Punk just see in the sidelines.
I’m sure this will be a terrific match, a possible show-stealer, but so far it’s been more about putting an abrupt end to the best stable in years than the feud itself.
Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes
I have no complains about how this storyline has developed. It has had a good build-up, nice promos (most of the work done by Rhodes) and it will surely be a good match.
However, it still isn’t as heated as the Del Rio-Christian rivalry.
Mysterio just realized he was in the feud when Dusty Rhodes set him up to get a beating.
Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan
Is this really a feud?
The Corre vs Big Show and Kane
Hearing the Red Monster say “you complete me” to the Giant was weird. Funny, I admit it, but REALLY weird.
I’m glad the Creative staff is making The Corre looking strong against Big Show (sorry, StraightEdge Society) and this will be a good match to see in Wrestlemania.
If The Corre wins, that’s a big push for all its members. If Big Show and Kane become Tag-Team champions, that’s a good way to revive the division.
However, this is just a mid-card feud.
Jerry “The King” Lawler vs Michael Cole
Interesting? Maybe. Exciting? Not really.
LayCool, Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler vs Snooki, Trish Stratus and John Morrison (and Kelly Kelly?)
I just included them in the list to get more search-results in Google News.
Edge vs Alberto del Rio
What? This is the actual World Heavyweight Championship match?
Hey, it’s not that they haven’t build-up their bout. They have exchanged blows and seem to despise each other.
Del Rio already hit Edge with a guitar (remembering a classic Mexican Lucha Libre moment) and a chair, while the Rated-R Superstar already speared his challenger in the Elimination Chamber and won the tag-team match they were involved.
But the truth is that their rivalry gets overshadowed by Del Rio’s feud with Christian.
I don’t now if the WWE will add Christian to the Wrestlemania card.
It could work as a triple-threat match or they could wait until Summerslam to have Captain Charisma getting his first World Championship by beating Del Rio.
I would like either way.
I just hope they don’t waste this rivalry in a meaningless match or let it fade after the Mexican Aristocrat wins the title at Atlanta.
Christian vs Alberto del Rio is the best current feud in WWE and the company has to get the most of it.
