NCAA Bracket 2011 Predictions: Beware These Teams When Filling out Your Bracket

Jim FolsomJun 7, 2018

The NCAA Tournament is upon us. It's time to fill out your brackets. Which team will get hot and win six in a row? It could be anybody, right? You hear someone say it every year, "all it takes is for a team to get hot for the next six games and they could win it all." Butler was a good example of this.

But is this true? Recent history suggests that teams who "get hot for the next six games" were already hot before that.

Duke won last year's NCAA Tournament. They also won last year's ACC Tournament. And while North Carolina in 2009 did lose in the ACC Semifinals, they had won four in a row before that game.

Florida in 2006 and 2007 won the SEC Tournament before winning the NCAA Tournament.

So when filling out your brackets this year, stay away from teams who have been losing recently. Here are some of them.

Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue lost to lowly Iowa in the regular season finale, then lost to a mediocre Michigan State team in the Big Ten Tournament. They have been one of the top teams all year, but do not be fooled.

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin lost to Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament. Not only did they lose, they lost 36-33 when JoePa called for a flea flicker for the go ahead Touchdown. 33 points? Really?

Vanderbilt Commodores

Vandy can flat out shoot the rock. They are a tempting team to pick. Just be careful about how far you go with them. Eventually those three point shooters will have an off night. Vandy has lost two of its last four games to Florida and also suffered late season losses to Tennessee and Kentucky.

One of the top teams all year, Pitt went down in the first game of the Big East tournament that they played. They couldn't take down a UConn team that had played the two previous days. That is alarming.

Florida State Seminoles

The Seminoles seem to be snake bit. First they lose their best player to an injury against a scrub team in Wake Forest. Then they lose heart breakers to North Carolina and Virginia Tech. If they can get Chris Singleton back, they may make a little noise. But they won't last too long either way.

Florida Gators

The Gators laid an egg in the SEC Final against Kentucky. They could not buy a bucket. This can't help their confidence going into the Big dance.

North Carolina Tar Heels

Poor first half play has become a disturbing trend for Heels fans. Hard to dig out of big holes against top competition.
