David Stern's Silent Demand to Orlando Magic's Stan Van Gundy

Joye PruittMar 11, 2011

The most influential and powerful leaders do not need to yell, scream or jump up and down hollering to get their points across.

In five sentences or less, they silently relay their feelings and their wishes, retreating to other topics immediately after. This was proven by NBA Commissioner David Stern on Colin Cowherd's radio show "The Herd with Colin Cowherd."

The way he spoke about the situation in such a cleverly threatening manner was slightly reminiscent of Wes Welker's underhanded comments about New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan's foot fetish "scandal" before their meeting in the postseason.

Stern stated that, "I would render a guess...that we won't be hearing from him for the rest of the season," and, "When he stops and reads what he said and realizes what he did, he will say no more."

The commissioner went on to make comments about how the franchise's front office will rein in his aberrant behavior.

Even though he may have the best of intentions, Stan Van Gundy cannot seem to get any interviews right.

His quirky halftime talks when his team is down are turning into pure comedy, and when you read a headline with his name in it you expect something way out of line on his part.

Dwight Howard suffered the one-game suspension due to how many technicals he sustained during the regular season and while Van Gundy may not agree with it, those are just the rules. Players cannot stand the fact that they can show no type of emotion when a bad call is made, but they either have to deal with it or suffer a technical.

This just adds to the notion that it is going to be Dwight Howard or Stan Van Gundy in the next season with the Orlando Magic.

After switching the team back and forth all over the map, those two are the only major components that have remained constants. Who really believes that Orlando's front office wants to say goodbye to the most talented big man in the nation? Not I.

There needs to be one more step in the process of Magic's rebuilding. Want to guess what that may be?
