NBA: The San Antonio Spurs Clinch Playoff Spot for 14th Straight Year
Another San Antonio Spurs win, another fallen record.
With Wednesday's 111-104 win over the Detroit Pistons, the San Antonio Spurs clinched a spot in the NBA Playoffs for the 14th consecutive season.
Every year since Tim Duncan was drafted, the Spurs have been in the playoffs.
They have transitioned their team from past greats such as Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson and David Robinson, to Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Duncan.
During their amazing playoff run, San Antonio has been perfect in the NBA Finals, winning four NBA Titles, all in odd-numbered years (1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007).
The Spurs, who currently own the NBA's best record, are also the proud owners of the current longest playoff streak in the NBA.
The streak is the seventh longest in NBA history, placing the Spurs' 14-year run with the likes of the Boston Celtics (1979-1993), the Chicago Bulls (1979-1993), the New York Knicks (1987-2001) and the Detroit Pistons (1949-1963).
Earlier this season, the Spurs became the first team in the league to win 50 games, extending their consecutive streak of at least 50-win seasons to 12 to tie them with the 1980's Los Angeles Lakers.
Although San Antonio keeps winning, streaks keep extending and records are falling, the Spurs know a season that doesn't end with an NBA Title is all but considered a failure.
The Spurs, who have never won an NBA championship in an even-numbered year, have all the makings of a title contender, despite being manhandled by the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
In the days of big money and big egos, it's nice to see a class organization like the Spurs leaving their mark on the league in a good way.
With little fanfare, little coverage and little respect, San Antonio keeps doing what they've been doing the last 14 seasons: Winning.
