Miami Heat Boo-Hoo: How They Have Become a Crying Shame in the NBA

Rob KelleyMar 7, 2011

How do you from the most hated team in the world of sports to an absolute joke within one season?

Start crying. Or stop crying.

I always get those two confused.

Following yet another loss to a team with a winning record, the Miami Heat continue to dominate the headlines.

Head coach Erick Spoelstra told reporters that several of the players were crying in the locker room after the loss.

That may not have been the smartest thing to reveal to the media.

First off, there is nothing wrong with shedding some tears, especially when it comes to sports. I know people who cry when their favorite team gets eliminated from the playoffs, and they don't even play for that team.

So if LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh or others were crying a little out of frustration, I see no problem whatsoever with that.

The team cares. They hate to lose and they have absolutely no idea what to do in order to change the outcomes of close games against good teams.

It has to be very frustrating.

Spoelstra wanted to portray his team as once who does not want to lose and is taking this seriously. They are sick and tired of losing, and they are fully aware of the fact that most of the world wants to continue to watch them struggle and suffer.

I won't say that they brought this on themselves, because I still do not feel as if that is the case.

Did James make the best decision by making his decision public? Probably not, but it did raise a lot of money for the Boys and Girls Club, so you cannot say it was entirely selfish.

Other than that, this was a group of superstars taking less money to play together and compete for a championship.

In a day and age where we crucify our athletes for being greedy (memo to NFL), players such as James, Wade, Bosh, Udonis Haslem, Mike Miller and others took less money to try and win.

I'm not saying that they should be applauded or commended, but I am not on the Heat haters bandwagon with countess others.

But it doesn't matter how you feel about this team. It doesn't matter what coach Spoelstra was trying to explain yesterday about his sobbing stars.

All it did was bring more heat on this team.

Yes, that pun was completely intended.

Miami has become a joke.

They cannot beat any of the top teams, they have no idea how to turn around their misfortunes and now their crying jig is being mocked around the league.

Mickey Arison spent a lot of money on this team. Pat Riley recruited some great players to join this team. They have an awful lot invested in this group.

But that is not to say that they will not make a change.

This may have very little to do with the coaching ability of Spoelstra. Wade is a huge supporter of Spoelstra and he probably does not favor having Riley back behind the bench.

But when Spoelstra revealed what happened after yesterday's loss in the locker room, that may have been the ultimate nail in his coaching coffin in South Beach.

Sadly for the Heat, it still will not make a big enough difference when it comes to the immediate future.
