NBA Trade Deadline: 10 Reasons Chicago Bulls Will Regret Not Making a Move
The trade deadline passed without the Bulls making a significant roster change. They got rid of James Johnson for a draft pick, but failed to improve their roster this year. While Boston, New York and Oklahoma City got better, the Bulls stayed the same.
Here are 10 reasons why they will regret not making a trade.
Kyle Korver's Lack of Defense
1 of 10
Kyle Korver rarely makes a play on defense. He gets beat routinely and looks out of place most of the time. In the rare instance he does come up with a stop, like in the game against the Wizards, a terrible turnover is not far away.
Lack of Secondary Facilitator on the Bulls
2 of 10
Luol Deng is second on the Bulls in assists. How many times a game do you find yourself saying, “Great pass, Luol.” The simple fact is the Bulls need another ball handler who can dish out assists.
The Bulls Need More Scoring from Their Bench
3 of 10
The four players averaging 20 minutes or more on the Bulls bench only average 6.55 ppg. There were numerous players the Bulls could have gone after to play 20-plus minutes a game that could add more on offense and defense.
The Bulls Could Do Better Than CJ Watson
4 of 10
An improvement at backup point guard is needed over CJ Watson. Watson is not much of a facilitator and not much of a scorer. The Bulls are basically treading water every time he is in the game. There had to have been a way to work in a trade for Ty Lawson, but the Bulls failed to do it.
It Is Not Too Late To Get Rasual Butler
5 of 10
The Bulls need to add a player, and he is available. Not picking him up is a mistake. He has put up good numbers over the years, and his strengths address our weaknesses. Butler is a solid perimeter shooter, who has been neglected on the Clippers bench this year. If the Bulls can acquire him at their terms, they better get him.
They Need Someone To Distribute the Ball
6 of 10
2.6 assists per game is the next high after Derrick Rose. The Bulls need a player who can pick up assists. When your injured center's return means that one of your better passers is back, it is time to make a trade. The Bulls have been great this year, but they need a player who can distribute the ball besides than Derrick Rose.
Kyle Korver's Streaky Shooting
7 of 10
Korver goes through cold streaks where he cannot make a shot. It seems like he misses more layups than he makes. At times he makes up for his inconsistency by shooting lights out, but this tends to happen when there is no pressure, and the game is in hand.
I will be much more comfortable with Korver when he starts hitting meaningful shots.
Rose Plays Well off the Ball
8 of 10
A player who can get him the ball will give headaches to opposing coaches. Rose may be the premier point guard in the NBA, but that does not mean he has to handle the ball on every play. Another ball handler on the Bulls will give them way more options on offense. Plus, nothing is more exciting than Rose receiving an alley-oop pass.
The East Got a Lot Harder
9 of 10
A trade giving up Taj and a first-round pick could have given us the right player to put us over the edge. The Knicks got better, Boston may have gotten better and the Bulls remained the same. What happened to all of the talk about OJ Mayo and JR Smith?
The Bulls Need a Player To Put Them over the Top
10 of 10
Lots of teams do it. Boston, Knicks and the Thunder made moves this year. The Lakers did it in the past with Gasol. Trading for a player at the deadline can be a good way to make a contender a legitimate threat to win it all.
Will the Bulls roster have what it takes to get past three teams competing to be known as the Big Three?
