NBA Power Rankings: Sacramento Kings and 8 Teams That Should Move to a New City
While every town should have a sports team, some cities are just not built for them.
It is a sad fact that in some cities like Sacramento, NBA teams get more or less ignored while other cities are just begging for a team to watch.
Well, I am going to break down the eight that should think about relocating because where they are is just not working out.
Oh and as an important note, the Nets are not here due to the fact that they are relocating.
8. Los Angeles Clippers
1 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 17,318 (15)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 16,343 (20)
Alright lets have some fun with this one.
Now, technically the Clippers are not doing terrible when it comes to fan support, but they are playing at the Staples Center which is also the home of another little know Western team.
As long as they are there, they will always be in the shadow of a franchise that has been much more successful than the Clippers can ever be.
They need to leave that area behind and move on for a fresh start, the future is bright and it would best be spent in a new city.
7. Charlotte Bobcats
2 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 15,857 (21)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 15,824 (22)
Jordan needs to do something with this team.
The number one thing would be to move them away from where they are right now and start with a fresh name, look, and fanbase.
While the Bobcats have not been very successful as a franchise and have only made the playoffs once, they are still a relatively OK team and do have some potential going forward.
However, in my honest opinion it would not hurt to at least look for another interested city and maybe find one that's better than Charlotte.
6. Indiana Pacers
3 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 13,659(28)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 14,202(27)
The Pacers are by no means a good team, but they are certainly not a terrible team.
This year, there is a very real possibility of them grabbing the 8th seed in the playoffs. Yes, a playoff team that has one of the worst fan bases in all of basketball.
They fans are just not there and while the city has not been blessed with "star-power" in terms of players, it is still a highly competitive team with some very entertaining players.
These numbers are unlikely to go up and one has to wonder how long a franchise can be successful when there are so many empty seats.
5. Minnesota Timberwolves
4 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standings): 14,554(25)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standings): 15,101(25)
The only reason they are not higher is because they simply are not that good.
By that I mean that they are the bottomfeaders of the NBA and even though I don't know how this game ended, I would guess that they lost this one as well as the next one.
When you have a terrible team like that it is understandable that the fans would not show up to their games.
Nonetheless, we are still talking about Minnesota here and even if they begin playing well are they going to see fans.
I can't see a big change happening and getting out of the twenties is not a very real possibility in terms of fan support (and wins for that matter).
4. Memphis Grizzlies
5 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 14,268(26)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 14,485(28)
The Memphis Grizzlies are a very solid team that has loads of potential going forward and yet they still play in front of empty seeds.
They could very well make the playoffs in the very tough Western Conference and beat out teams like the Suns (sob), Utah and Houston.
They also have great young talent and should only improve in the upcoming seasons. With that said, the 8th spot is not coming easy and every game matters.
If I was a fan and lived in Memphis, I would be right there cheering on my team, but I obviously don't have the same mindset as the fans of the Grizzlies.
3. New Orleans Hornets
6 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 14,875(23)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 15,130(23)
This really baffles me.
The Hornets are a playoff team and they have one of the best point guards in the league and yet still they are in the bottom half of the league in fans.
It just doesn't make sense and there is no excuse for it.
The NBA now owns the Hornets and with the new agreement that should be coming soon (I most dearly hope) there should be some changes made.
Now, I don't know if the teams in trouble are getting moved or are just being scrapped, but for the sake of the NBA I hope that the bees will find a new home in the United States.
2. Sacramento Kings
7 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 13,494(29)
2010 Home Attendance Average: 13,254(29)
Sacramento is a terrible team, there is no way around it.
However, that is not the reason for the low number of fans. At some point a team just has to realize that it is not working out for them.
The 50 States have openings for teams, so it should not be hard to find loyal fans willing to brave the storm that is passing by.
I would not be surprised if you walked down a street in Sacramento and saw more Heat jerseys than Kings jerseys and the ones wearing the Kings colors will probably be shunned.
A fan base that completely ignores it's own home team is not a fan base, it is a disgrace.
1. Atlanta Hawks
8 of 8
2011 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 14,613(24)
2010 Home Attendance Average (league standing): 16,545(18)
On second though, I think I should have saved the word disgrace for this slide.
This is just absolutely unfathomable to me, I just can't understand what is going on here,
The Hawks are a playoff team who are looking to finish in the top five in the Conference and they have the star power of Joe Johnson and Josh Smith to lure in the highlight reel fans.
They have everything that makes up a solid, strong, and most importantly watchable NBA team.
Atlanta should be in the top ten and yet this year, the Bobcats have more fans showing up! It simply does not add up and it is pretty obvious to me that Atlanta is not a basketball city.
Alright, fine; now find one that is!
