Derrick Rose: Why Rose Is a More Deserving MVP Than LeBron James

Richard LangfordFeb 24, 2011

Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls went head-to-head against LeBron James and the Miami Heat on Thursday night.

The Bulls pulled out a 93-89 victory in front of their ecstatic home crowd. It was a huge game in the Eastern Conference standings.

It was also the first time the two had played each other this season—James missed the first Bulls-Heat matchup due to injury.

Just as the Bulls edged out the Heat, Rose is edging out LeBron in the race for the MVP.

At just 22 years of age and in his third year in the league, Rose is taking it to another level in the NBA.

He is averaging 25 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. All impressive stats, but they do not measure up to LeBron's.

Rose's value, however, cannot be measured by his stats.

He is a true point guard of the future, explosive and dynamic. Night after night he produces highlight-reel dunks.

He is a solid shooter. Like great point guards of the past, he is an amazing ball handler with tremendous court vision.

Most importantly, he is a dynamic leader. He leads the Bulls on and off the court. He is a hard worker and a fierce competitor; giving, gracious, thoughtful and thankful.

He is everything a franchise wants.

He has also held the Bulls together through a string of injuries. Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer have been on the court in the same game less than ten times this season.

Derrick Rose is every team's main target when they play the Bulls. He has the ball in his hands as much as anyone in the game. He controls the destiny of his team as much as any player in the league, and he is doing an amazing job.

Despite the injuries, Rose has led the Bulls to a 39-17 record—the third best in the Eastern Conference.

While LeBron is putting together another amazing season, it is impossible to argue that the Heat would be worse off without him than the Bulls would be without Rose.

I know of no better measure of the MVP than that, and I know of no more deserving candidate than Rose.
