NBA Trade Deadline: Recapping the Last-Minute Trades Throughout the NBA
NBA Trade Deadline was a photo finish as a ton of big time deals came through right at the buzzer. There are some big shifts as we go forward towards the end of the season.
Kendrick Perkins is heading west and so is Gerald Wallace. There are some big names moving around and one deal that fell apart right when it looked like a sure thing. If you have any thoughts on the biggest news of the day, be sure to let that be known.
Are you happy with your team's moves or lack thereof? Let's hear it everyone!
Oklahoma Adds Size, Brings in Perkins and Mohammed
1 of 6
Trade 1
Oklahoma City Gets: Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson
Boston Gets: Jeff Green, Nenad Kristic and the Clippers' 2012 first-round draft pick (top-10 protected)
---
Trade 2
Oklahoma City Gets: Nazr Mohammed
Charlotte Gets: D.J. White and Mo Peterson
---
The Oklahoma City Thunder are contenders.
Mark it down right now, because with today's deal, the Thunder put the entire Western Conference on notice and let them know that Oklahoma City is coming for the crown. Adding a big man like Perkins to a team with scorers like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, the Thunder are going to be tough to beat in a seven-game series.
Oklahoma City is finally making a move for the upper echelon of the NBA and if I'm a fan of the Thunder, and your team adds Perkins and Mohammed at the deadline, turning a weakness into a strength, I'm pumped.
Gerald Wallace Goes To Portland
2 of 6
Portland Gets: Gerald Wallace
Charlotte Gets: Joel Pryzbilla, Dante Cunningham and two first-round picks
This is another deal that came down to the wire and it was one that was talked about as early as yesterday.
Charlotte worked hard to move Wallace and now the Bobcats not only get two first-round picks, but also get to save some money with Pryzbilla. Michael Jordan waited long enough and got the right deal from the Bobcats.
If I'm the Blazers, I'm happy with this deal. With Brandon Roy's status going forward unknown, adding a guy like Wallace to pair with LaMarcus Aldridge is a great move for a team that needed to do something at the deadline.
Phoenix Lands Aaron Brooks
3 of 6
Phoenix Gets: Aaron Brooks
Houston Gets: Goran Dragic and a lottery protected first-round pick
Houston got a steal here.
Sure, Brooks was a good player, but it was clear he had some attitude issues and the team didn't want to deal with it. Look at it this way-it looked like Jonny Flynn might becoming back for Brooks. This is certainly better, isn't it?
I really like Dragic as a player and there's a chance that you get a first-rounder out of the deal. Daryl Morey wasn't done dealing either, as we approach the next slide. It was pretty hectic if you're a fan of the Rockets, but finally the team made some moves.
Shane Battier Is Headed Back To Memphis
4 of 6
Houston Gets: Hasheem Thabeet and a first-round pick
Memphis Gets: Shane Battier and Ish Smith
I can't say this enough about this deal; Daryl Morey strikes again.
Thabeet has struggled during his time in the league, but he'll have time to grow in Houston. Even if he doesn't, the Rockets got a first-round pick out of the deal and there's no guarantees that it's going to be a low pick.
Houston is always about getting assets and the Rockets gathered another big one at the deadline.
Boston Makes A Move For Assets
5 of 6
Trade 1
Boston Gets: A second-round pick
Cleveland Gets: Semih Erden and Luke Harangody
---
Trade 2
Boston Gets: Cash
Sacramento Gets: Marquis Daniels
I'm not sure what the Boston Celtics were doing at the deadline.
One of the strengths of the Celtics was their size and now, at the deadline, Boston moved Kendrick Perkins, Erden and Harangody. The Celtics must really believe in the health of guys like Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal to make a move like this.
For Cleveland, the Cavaliers got some young players and didn't have to give up much to do it. It wasn't a bad move at all.
As far as the deal to Sacramento goes, the Kings really needed to reach the salary floor, and Boston was looking to shed some salary, so it's really a win-win for everyone involved. However, Daniels could veto the deal so keep your eyes peeled for that.
One Failed Deal: O.J. Mayo to Indiana
6 of 6
What Would Have Happened
Memphis Would Have Gotten: Josh McRoberts and a first-round draft pick
Indiana Would Have Gotten: O.J. Mayo
Well it's certainly amateur hour with the Pacers and the Grizzlies.
It looked like the two sides had come to a deal that would have sent O.J. Mayo to Indiana and continued Memphis' push to the playoffs. However, the trade didn't get into the league in time and that's just baffling to me.
Usually the league will extend the deadline a bit if the two teams are close to a deal, but Memphis' owner Michael Heisley told David Aldridge of NBA.com that the Pacers couldn't get it together. He also told Chris Tomasson of Fanhouse that more players were involved but that they couldn't come to terms.
It seems like Mayo shouldn't get too comfortable with the Grizzlies though. His days look numbered.
