NBA Speculation: Jimmer Fredette and the Utah Jazz a Match Made in Heaven?
After the Utah Jazz dealt star point guard Deron Williams to the New Jersey Nets for Derrick Favors and Devin Harris along with a first-round pick, message boards devoted to the Jazz and BYU lit up with chatter of the possibility of Jimmer Fredette staying home.
The first-round pick sent to the Jazz is bound to be one of the top ten picks because the Nets own one of the worst records in the NBA.
Selecting Jimmer in the top ten could be a stretch, as most analysts have him going in the 15-25 range, Utah could take a gamble and draft Utah's hometown hero.
One reason this would be a success is that Fredette already has a huge following of fans in the Salt Lake area and that would generate larger ticket sales for the Jazz.
Secondly, the Jazz are going to need someone to pick up the production of their best player that they just shipped away. Jimmer should have no problem scoring in the NBA in the same way he does in college.
He is a pure shooter and has a good enough all-around game that he could take the reins at the point guard position successfully in the NBA.
Jimmer is a very coach-able player. The Jazz staff would be able to make him a more of a point guard who could get his team the opportunities to score themselves, and still get his offensive production similar to Deron Williams.
Lastly, being a rookie in the NBA is a tough adjustment, especially when you get selected by a team that's not anywhere near your college locale.
Having Jimmer stay in his comfort zone will help ease the rookie nerves that many newbies to the league face year in and year out.
Utah and Jimmer Fredette are made for each other. Not taking a chance on America's favorite college baller would be sin in a land known for its squeaky-clean image.
